The North District (Hebrew: מחוז הצפון‎, mehoz hatzafon, also Northern District), is one of six administrative districts in Israel, with a land area of 3,324 km² (3,484 land and water). Including the Golan Heights, 1,154 km², the land total comes to 4,478 km². (4,638 total). The district capital and largest city in the North District is Nazareth.

The Golan Heights has been run as a sub-district of the North District of Israel[1] since the 1981 Golan Heights Law, although its de facto annexation is not internationally recognised, and the non-binding United Nations Security Council Resolution 497 declared the annexation invalid.

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics data for 2005:[1]

  • Total population: 1,185,400
  • Ethnic makeup:
    • Arabs: 622,400 (52.5%)
    • Jews: 523,400 (44.2%)
    • Others: 39,600 (3.3%)
  • Religious makeup:
  • Density: 265/km²

The North District is the only district where the majority of inhabitants are Arabs.
