New York Harbor School is a unique school that relates every aspect of its curriculum to the water. In New York Harbor School the freshman visit their outdoor laboratory - New York Harbor - every Tuesday and Thursday. They get to learn and explore new things and new places. The students go to different rivers such as the Hudson River and East River. In Harbor School the students learn how to row, sail, swim and take care of the organisms that live in the water and feed us such as fish, shrimp, and other animals. Even the after school programs offered are all about the water - like pool and harbor science and SCUBA diving and we study the animals and things that either are or live in the water. On September 2008 or 2009, the Harbor School is going to move to Governors Island to be close to the water.

New York Harbor School was created four years ago. Before New York Harbor or Bushwick High School were created, it was a cemetery used for people of the Civil War. First came Bushwick High School. It was one of the original high schools in Bushwick. Bushwick High School closed and was separated to make three new schools (Academy of Urban Planning, Bushwick School for Social Justice and New York Harbor School). Three years later another high school was created: the Academy of Environmental Leadership. This high school is going to move to the water. This school fulfilled their dream to move to the water.

A mythical blond haired mesiah is thought to have originally begat the Harbor School into existence. Through the tireless work of this prophet known simply as Fish, the school may yet be delivered unto the promised (is)land.

In this school we have a lot of extra programs related to New York's maritime experience that make it an important school. For example, they have programs like pool. In this program the students can do swimming which is required for graduation. This school has trips where you can do a lot of activities like go in boats, learn about fish, water, and more. This school also has a lot of team sports that you can choose that have nothing to do with water, like baseball, soccer, basketball and volleyball.

New York Harbor School is going to move to Governor’s Island.

This project is moving the school from Bushwick because this school is about water. Every week we go out on a trip and those trips have to do with the water and a better place for those trips would be closer to the water. New York Harbor School is going to move to Governors Island, in the middle of New York Harbor which will become the school's outdoor research laboratory for applied learning.
