National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Delhi was established in 1987 under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. The main motive behind the idea of this Institute was to fulfil the long-felt needs of the export-oriented garment industry to train manpower in fashion design, garment manufacturing technology and apparel marketing and merchandising. Nift is one of the leading fashion center of India. Students graduating from NIFT have that ability to make there mark in fashion world. Many of the leading designers of India are NIFT products.

Outside Delhi, NIFT has centers at Mumbai, Kolkata, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore.

Fashion Communication
Fashion Communication is the ultimate offering of Nift in terms of content and quality expected by its students to deliver.

One of the most prominent courses....It is always occupied by the highest rankers on day one.

Fashion Design
A faculty of trained and highly qualified staff is a plus point of NIFT. Here "learning by doing" approach is given importance and hence students are being trained according to the national as well as international demand of the market. This course is a three years diploma course.
Accessory Design(Available in Delhi as AD & Bangalore as F&LA)
The program emphasizes on appreciation and application of traditional Indian crafts base in a contemporary milieu. NIFT is providing conceptual knowledge of related materials, processes and technologies in the areas of leather goods, footwear, gift wear, tableware, precious and costume jewelery. NIFT students get there knowledge not only on the base of present in fact they have been trained to have there eyes on future too before designing anything.

It also delves into Personal Products design, such as watches, eyewear. Graduating students also delve into careers from Hardcore Industrial Design, to Visual Merchandising, to Product Design. This course used to be a three years diploma course, now a four year course. This course is available only in Delhi & Bangalore center of National Institute Of Fashion Technology.

Knitwear Design & Technology
The course is 2-year postgraduate diploma program introduced at NIFT in 1994 and 4 year bechlor degree program.The program is structured keeping in view the requirements of the knitting industry.

Written test for NIFT admissions are conducted around the first week of February at Bangalore, Calcutta, Chandigarh, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Chennai, Mumbai, Thiruvananthapuram,jaipur and Bhubaneshwar. The written examination consists of the following tests: General Ability Test, Creative Ability Test(CAT) and, for the Apparel Marketing course, Managerial Ability Test.
