The National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) World Tag Team Championship is the premier tag team title within the NWA framework. It has been defended in World Championship Wrestling (WCW) from 1992 to 1993 and in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) from 2002 to 2007.

The National Wrestling Alliance did not officially recognize any set of World Tag Team Champions until 1992, while the various NWA affiliates promoted their own "World Tag Team Championships", many of which were not eligible for World Title status considering they were rarely defended outside of the region they were created in. The following are the variations that existed at one point or another[2]:

In the mid-1980s, Jim Crockett Promotions became the flag bearer for the NWA and began to openly refer to their Mid Atlantic version as the NWA World Tag Team Championship. In 1988, Jim Crockett Promotions was transformed into World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and the title renamed the WCW World Tag Team Championship.

In July 1992, the NWA held a tournament to crown an officially sanctioned NWA World Tag Team Championship. The tournament was held by WCW, whose World Tag Team Championship by that time was the only existing claim within the NWA and which had the most widely available television broadcasting. The tournament was won by Terry Gordy & Steve Williams. Gordy & Williams had entered the tournament as WCW World Tag Team Champions and the two sets of titles remained united until September 1993, when WCW withdrew from the NWA, vacatin the NWA World Tag Team Championship.

The NWA title belts were created by WCW and after the withdrawal from the NWA, the belts were continued to be used for the WCW World Tag Team Championship. The NWA had to create new belts, which were later used in TNA until TNA and the NWA split on May 13, 2007.

The NWA announced on June 29, 2007, that in lieu of another title tournament, the title would be decided in a three-way match between the teams of Joey Ryan and Karl Anderson, Incognito and Sicodelico Jr., and Billy Kidman and Sean Waltman on July 8, 2007 in McAllen, Texas. The match was won by Ryan and Anderson.

The current champions are Joey Ryan and Karl Anderson, who are in their first reign as a tag team. Ryan and Anderson defeated the teams of Incognito and Sicodelico Jr. and Billy Kidman and Sean Waltman on July 8, 2007 in McAllen, Texas.
