Mr. Richard Adler is a shop teacher at South Park Elementary. He plays a main role in the episode Tweek vs. Craig in season three. After giving out the day's assignment, he begins to daydream about Pam Brady in a live action segment. Pam Brady is one of the writers behind Mr. Wong and the voice behind Miss Pam; she also co-wrote Bigger, Longer and Uncut and has worked on many of the South Park episodes. During these dreams she is seen crashing a plane and under water. Richard tries to deal with these dreams by chewing mulitiple pieces of Nicotine Gum. Near the end of the episode he has his final dream of Pam Brady in which she is shown as a skywriter whose plane exploded in midair and crashed into the sea and drowning her. She had been writing a message saying "I love u Richard," but was cut off in mid-word so, instead of saying "Richard," it said "Richaaagh!" At this point Mr. Adler can no longer cope, so he shows up to school planning to commit suicide. After writing his death note he lies on a log cutter with a moving belt, but a fight between Tweek and Craig goes into his classroom, "killing" Kenny (he said "I'm ok," afterwards). Mr. Alder sees Pam Brady and asks her why she left him without letting him say goodbye. She says saying goodbye is not all it is cut out to be and he should go on living a normal life. With this information he does not kill himself and hugs Kenny. This gives him the ability to make a very brief appearance in future episodes.

Spoilers end here.

In the episode "Proper Condom Use," the school staff discusses the proper age for sexual education. Mr. Adler points out that the children should be educated "if they're gonna screw around." In the Season Ten episode "Smug Alert!" he appears but says nothing. It is also evident that Mr. Adler believes in the 9/11 conspiracy theory, as shown in Mystery of the Urinal Deuce.

  • "Wrong! You are here, because you are America's future! You may someday be doctors or lawyers or scientists! Most of you however will be pumping gas or cutting sheet metal! And that's why we have shop class!"
  • "Stop screwing around!"
