Mount epomeo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Situated on the volcanic island of Ischia in the bay of Naples, Italy, Mount Epomeo is a dormant volcano.
Measuring in at 789 metres, it’s an impressive sight. It towers above Ischia, showing how the vibrant island was created! Epomeo’s covered in lush greenery, and quiet traditional villages such as Fontana. Also there are a few vineyards on her slopes. Approximately 75 metres from the peak the mountain is covered in white lava. There’s a mountain path leading up the mountain from Fontana, all the way to the top.
On this beautiful walk are a few sleepy restaurants, selling food at a reasonable price. After walking through the trees the path turns from tarmac to lava, with little chiselled paths leading to the top. Once at the top you can admire the island’s beauty from the cheerful café! Also just below the peak is a chapel, and a deep well. The perfect place to admire the island, from the peak to the numerous bays of Ischia. On a clear day it’s possible to see Napoli across the sea, as well as the popular tourist attraction of Capri!
It’s a great place to visit if you’re looking for somewhere away from the crazy streets of touristy Ischia. A bus-drive away, the walk is a must for visitors. Though if climbing the mountain, be sure to take water, and suitable shoes as the temperatures can be very hot, especially in summer. Also the paths aren’t the best, and are a challenge to go up, and get down!
