Mother 1 + 2 (マザー 1+2 Mazā Wan Tsū?) is a port of Mother and Mother 2 (EarthBound US) to the Nintendo Game Boy Advance. Several audio effects and tracks are different compared to the console versions. Mother 2 remained mostly the same, but Mother was changed a lot to match the U.S. prototype.

Contents

  • Most changes applied in the prototype American version of Mother were applied to Mother 1 + 2. These include removing blood, tobacco use, and crosses from Mother.
  • A run feature was also applied to Mother. Upon pressing R, the player can move at twice the normal speed. This was also in the unreleased NES Earth Bound, although all NPCs in the game would run as fast as the player would.
  • Another feature added was being able to press the L button to either use the talk command or the check command, depending on the conditions of what it is used upon. This feature was in all versions of Mother 2.

  • A bug in Mother 2 was fixed. This bug allowed players to use the Exit Mouse, an item that leads the player to the beginning of an area, in the Cave of the Past.

Due to the game's popularity, Mother 1 + 2 was released under Japan's "Value Selection". Games released under this would cost around 2,600 yen. Inside these boxes also appeared a Club Nintendo Serial card.
