Contents

The constituency covers the north of Poole in the east, and extends into rural Dorset in the west. A surprise gain for the Liberal Democrats in 2001, it swung strongly in their favour in 2005.

In the 2006 boundary changes, the historic market town of Wimborne Minster became part of the constituency. For a brief time there was talk that the constituency would be renamed "Wimborne and Wareham" to acknowledge Wimborne now being the largest town in the constituency.
