McChicken

McChicken is the name of a chicken sandwich sold by McDonald's in many countries. The sandwich consists of a chicken patty, lettuce, and mayonnaise [1]. The current McChicken sandwich recipe is somewhat spicier than the original. Additionally, in United States, the sandwich is somewhat smaller than it was previously, as it is now on the Dollar Menu, which offers various food products for the price of US$1.00. In Canada, with McChicken still its original size, the one on the dollar menu is called "Junior Chicken"
The shaped chicken patty in the McChicken sandwich used to be 50% white meat and 50% dark meat. Recently McDonald's have advertised the McChicken to now contain only 100% white meat. The sandwich was originally introduced in 1980, later removed (and replaced with different chicken sandwiches made with an all-white-meat grilled or fried chicken breast), then reintroduced.
In certain McDonald's franchises, the McChicken sandwich was adapted to appeal to the local population's tastes. For example, in Hawaii, the Ala Moana Shopping Center McDonald's created the McTeriChicken sandwich. "Teri," otherwise known as Teriyaki sauce, is heavily used in Hawaii and has been applied in various McDonald's sandwiches (e.g. the McTeri Burger). In some countries such as Singapore and India, the McChicken is a chicken burger on a sesame seed bun and it does not have a spicy taste. The sandwich was for a time known as the "Cajun McChicken" sandwich, but the name was changed to just "McChicken" around 2000, at which time the spices may have been temporarily or permanently reduced.
McDonald's restaurants in Taiwan feature Spicy McChicken sandwiches, a hot and spicy varient of the original. This is available on both the traditional bun, as well as a formed rice bun.
In Australia and New Zealand, the McChicken comes on a sesame seed bun with lettuce and "McChicken Sauce" and is slightly spiced. Originally the McChicken appeared in Australia as a "promotional" menu item but due to its popularity in this market it became a full time menu item.
The "mayonnaise" used on the sandwich is known as "McChicken Sauce" in many parts of the world, including Canada and Australia. It is often available in separate packets upon request, and is often used as a dip for french fries.[2].
