Martin Daubney

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Martin Daubney (born 22 June 1970) is the longest serving Editor of lads magazine Loaded since its creator James Brown, Daubney was responsible for the titles' re-launch in April 2005. Refreshed and rejuvenated to reflect the changing needs of modern man, Daubney said of this ‘new laddism’, “Men have realised that if they adopt the ways of the gays, they get laid more often.” [1]

Previously working for the News of the World on its sports pages, Daubney was appointed Editor of Loaded, replacing former editor Scott Manson. Within weeks of his appointment, he had engineered the media stunt involving the flying of a model helicopter to annoy stunt artist David Blaine, who was suspended above the River Thames. Since then, Daubney has insisted on living the lads mag lifestyle as much as possible, according to his interview with the Guardian [2], in which he admitted 'I am a heavy drinker, It is part of my world.'

Martin Daubney lives in a suitably edgy part of Spitalfields, and provoked tabloid scandal by reportedly ending up in bed with Alex Best after interviewing her ('It's not true - I was too pissed'), causing ex-husband footballer George Best to go on a health-threatening bender. [3]. While in Loaded's 2005 'Sex List' he was linked with glamour model Abi Titmuss, which he also denied. Daubney has infuriated the Anglian Wolf Society and various animal rights supporters when he wrote a feature for Loaded where he shot and killed radioactive wolves in Chernobyl. Campaign Magazine noted Martin Daubney in their 'Most Talked About Editors' list, 2005.
