Mark Kryder

Dr. Mark Kryder was Seagate Corp.'s senior vice president of research and chief technology officer. Dr. Kryder joined Seagate as senior vice president of research in 1998 to head its research division. Prior to his career at Seagate, Kryder was the Stephen J. Jatras university professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University and a founding director of the Data Storage Systems Center there; he was also a member of the research staff at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center. Dr. Kryder holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Physics from the California Institute of Technology. He has authored over 300 publications and holds 21 patents. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the American Physical Society and a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). He has twice been selected as Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE Magnetics Society and has been awarded the IEEE Magnetics Society Achievement Award, the IEEE Reynold B. Johnson Information Storage Award and the IEEE Millennium Medal.
