Maldon Town FC was formed in 1946, with their HQ at the Rose and Crown pub and home pitch at Sadd's Ground. They initially played in the Mid-Essex League before moving on to the North Essex League.
A return to the Mid-Essex League Premier Division saw them win the league title twice in consecutive seasons, around the same time as they moved to the Wallace Binder ground in Fambridge Road. They next played in the Essex and Suffolk Border League, where they were champions in 1965-66, enabling them to join the Eastern Counties League in 1966. In 1972, after finishing second from bottom, they stepped down to the Essex Senior League, where they were league champions in 1984-85.
In 1996 they rejoined the Eastern Counties League, and in their second season gained promotion to the Premier Division. In season 2002/03 they reached the semi final of the FA Vase losing to local rivals AFC Sudbury. After 14 years as chairman, Bob Large decided to stand down as he felt he had taken the Club as far has he could. A second place finish in 2003-04 saw them promoted to the Southern League Eastern Division, where they finished in third place to gain promotion at the first attempt, although due to a reorganisation of the English football league system they were placed in the Premier Division of the Isthmian League. In their first season at this level they finished in 20th place and were relegated to Division One North. However they did reach the final of the Thames side trophy losing 3–1 to Canvey Island and also the final of the Eastern Floodlit Competition losing on penalties 5–3 to Billericay Town.
The 2007/2008 season saw Russell Tanner take charge of the club as Colin Wallington stepped down.
