The Malaysian Open is a men's professional golf tournament. It was first played in 1962 and since 1999 it has been sanctioned by the European Tour, which began to expand into Asia in 1989 and now stages tournaments in Asia through most of the northern winter. The tournament is also part of the Asian Tour's schedule and is currently known as the Carlsberg Malaysian Open for sponsorship reasons. In 2006 the prize fund was 1.25 million U.S. dollars. Past winners include former World Number 1 Vijay Singh. There has never been a Malaysian winner.
