Magor (Welsh: Magwyr) - meaning 'a wall' - is a village located in Monmouthshire, southern Wales. It is located between Chepstow and the city of Newport. Magor is within the commuter belts of Newport, Bristol and Cardiff. Although it could be described as a dormitory town it has a thriving village centre containing shops, pubs, restaurants and a Post Office. Magor and the surrounding area contain many Roman ruins and artefacts. Remains of the 14th century Abbots house are still standing just off the village square. It is the western part of a twin village, with Undy being the eastern half and Vinegar Hill lying between them. The two villages support a thriving athletic club whose clubhouse and pitches are found at the eastern end of the viallges. As of 2008 there is a proposed (Newport) relief road to be built that will run to the west of the village utilising the existing motorway junction. [1]
