This list is for planets in the Star Wars universe that either:

1. Were completely destroyed (as in shattered into asteroids) (e.g., Alderaan) or
2. Sustained so much damage that they were rendered effectively uninhabitable (e.g., Honoghr) or
3. Had their entire population killed but remained habitable (e.g., Centerpoint)

Adopted homeworld of Princess Leia Organa, Alderaan was destroyed by the superlaser on the first Death Star in 0 BBY. Grand Moff Tarkin ordered its destruction both as a demonstration of the Death Star's power and to convince Princess Leia to reveal the location of the Rebel Base. To protect her homeworld, she gave him the location (although it was later discovered that she was lying), but Tarkin gave the order to proceed anyway, citing the need for an effective demonstration of their power.

Headquarters of the revived Empire in the Dark Empire series and homeworld of the Clone Emperor. The world was destroyed when the Galaxy Gun weapon accidentally unloaded one of its projectiles into the planet while being destroyed.

Caamas was bombarded and made unfit for life at some point after the Clone Wars. The planet's shield generators were disabled by Bothans working for the Empire. Caamas became an important plot point in Timothy Zahn's The Hand of Thrawn duology, set 19 years ABY. A pair of ambitious Imperial officers attempted to divide the New Republic by spreading rumors that it was destroyed by members of the most powerful Bothan clans. War was narrowly averted after Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade recovered a copy of the Caamas Document, which proved the Empire's culpability and named the guilty Bothans, from Grand Admiral Thrawn's former stronghold in the Outer Rim. There are only a few Caamasi left in the universe; they are renowned for their wisdom and compassion.

Carida was the home of the Imperial military academy. Kyp Durron destroyed the planet while being possessed by the Sith Lord Exar Kun and controlling the superweapon called the Sun Crusher. Knowing that his brother had been press-ganged into the stormtroopers years ago, Durron demanded to know if he was still alive. When the officer on Carida made up a lie about his brother being dead, Durron fired a torpedo into Carida's sun, causing a supernova and thus destroying every planet in the system.

Not strictly a planet, the artificial world of Centerpoint in the Corellian system was an ancient space-station inhabited by settlers from other planets in the system. The station turned out to be an ancient superweapon, and was rendered uninhabitable when evil forces triggered the weapon, heating the interior unbearably. Refugees from the devastated world fled to neighbouring Talus and Tralus. Recent efforts have been made by the Corellian government to make the station operational again, with limited success. In Legacy Of the Force: Betrayal, the Corellians are able to bring it online again and threatened to use it against the Galactic Alliance. This prompted Jacen Solo and Ben Skywalker to deactivate it.

Homeworld of the Bith, Clakdor VII was rendered virtually uninhabitable by a war between Bith factions in which chemical weapons were widely used to devastating effect.

During the Jedi Civil Wars, Darth Malak discovered a Jedi enclave on the planet and had it destroyed. It was later colonized again by settlers and salvagers who were searching the ruins of the Jedi Enclave for Jedi relics. Five years later the "last Jedi" came there and helped the militia to put down an attempt to dominate the planet made by the mercenaries living there. Shortly after the founding of the Jedi Academy on Yavin IV after the fall of the Empire, refugees from Eol Sha (led by force-sensitive Gantoris) settled on the planet. The colony was once again destroyed and its inhabitants slaughtered by Admiral Daala soon after.

Da Soocha V (nicknamed the "Pinnacle Moon") served as New Republic headquarters during the time of Palpatine's clones, approximately 10 years ABY. As one Palpatine clone closed on Da Soocha V in his flagship Eclipse, Luke and Leia managed to deflect the Force storm he had conjured, devouring the Eclipse. In his new clone body, Palpatine fired his newest superweapon, the Galaxy Gun, at Da Soocha V, destroying the moon. Most Alliance personnel had evacuated.

The planet where the Death Star was created by enslaved prisoners, Despayre was destroyed after the superweapon's completion in order to cover up details of its construction.

One of the worlds orbiting Doornik 207 was colonised by the Corasgh, but this colony was wiped out by the Yevetha during the Black Fleet Crisis.

The Duros are among the most avid star pilots in the galaxy, which significantly impacted their planet. Most Duros abandoned their homeworld, leaving it in the hands of powerful corporations, which turned it into an industrial wasteland. The Empire later established ore mines there which almost completely destroyed the planet's ecosystem. However, the Yuuzhan Vong were later able to restore much of the planet.

Elcorth was a mining colony in the Koornacht Cluster. Along with a number of small colonies, it was wiped out by the Yevetha during the Black Fleet Crisis.

Unlike most of the worlds in this list, Eol Sha was destroyed by natural disaster rather than human or alien action. The always inhospitable volcano-world was home to a small colony of human settlers when it attracted the attention of Luke Skywalker because of the Jedi talents of a local hero, Gantoris. Luke visited the world in order to recruit Gantoris into his new Jedi Order. He discovered, however, that the planet was about to be destroyed as its moon's orbit decayed. He thus arranged for the population to be transported off-world before the impending disaster. However, the refugees were unfortunate enough to become the target of rogue warlord Admiral Daala, who slaughtered them at their new camp on Dantooine after a cargo transport was intercepted. When Gantoris turned to the Dark Side and was slain by the spirit of Exar Kun, it appeared that the last of the Eol Sha population had been destroyed along with the planet.

Homeworld of the Firrerreo, Firrere was devastated by a biological weapon as punishment for opposition to the Empire. The order was given by Hethrir, a Firrerreo traitor who had become an imperial agent. Before its destruction, a small portion of the adult population were removed onto space barges.

This otherwise unexceptional and uninhabited planet has the privilege of being the only planet to date which was intentionally wiped out by New Republic forces. The icy world was colonised by the first wave of Yuuzhan Vong invaders, the Praetorite Vong. It was destroyed through the use of shieldships to artificially increase the heat of the planet.

Honoghr is the homeworld of the Noghri, some of the most skillful fighters in the galaxy. Its ecosystem was almost destroyed during the clone wars when a scientific ship crashed on Honoghr's surface in the aftermath of a battle. During a conversation with Princess Leia Organa, the leader of the Noghri clan sheltering her claimed that the devastation occurred forty-four years previously, a date that Leia linked to the Clone Wars. The forty-four year timeframe, however, places the crash in 35BBY, some years before the Clone Wars got underway. The reason for this discrepency is due to the publication of the book Dark Force Rising being some years prior to the prequel trilogy establishing the official timeframe for the Clone Wars - no official story rationale has been put forward for the discrepency and, given the release of the film, the dating given in the book would presumably no longer be considered canonical.

Darth Vader landed and told the Noghri that if they would serve the Empire, their planet would be restored; however, the Empire allowed only tiny portions of land to flourish, keeping the rest of the world dead. When Princess Leia arrived on the planet in 9ABY, she was immediately recognized as "Lady Vader".

Leia convinced the Noghri of the Empire's duplicity when she captured a spydroid disguised as a droid decontaminating Honoghr, then used the chemicals stored within to prove that the decontamination was being deliberately slowed.

Ithor was the homeworld of the Ithorians, a peaceful race dedicated to herding and botany. The hammerheaded alien seen in the A New Hope Cantina scene is an Ithorian. The Yuuzhan Vong planned to destroy the planet during their invasion of the galaxy, but Corran Horn challenged Yuuzhan Vong commander Shedao Shai to a duel for Ithor. Horn won, but the Yuuzhan Vong released a biological agent on the planet anyway, and Horn was blamed for the loss.

The moon of Kessel, which served as a garrison for the prison planet's space force, was destroyed by the prototype Death Star when it left Maw Installation. In their haste to test out the superweapon, the team of technicians on the Death Star aimed it at Kessel, but hit the moon by mistake, obliterating it.

The homeworld of the Nikto, Kintan was rendered a wasteland by the Nikto themselves as they tried to exterminate native predators and monsters. Though still inhabited, it is utterly devastated.

Kutag was an Imperial barrack world overrun by the Yevetha during the Black Fleet Crisis.

Malachor V was the planet where the last battle of the Mandalorian War took place. During the battle the planet was nearly destroyed by the mass shadow generator. Ten years later during the events of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, if the character is light side, the wounded planet is finally destroyed.

Nam Chorios, the "planet of twilight", was rendered uninhabitable by a plague of disease-bearing insects.

Nar Shaddaa was destroyed by the Yuuzhan Vong some twenty years ABY, and was terraformed later by them for a more natural world.

New Brigia was a planet in the Koornacht Cluster, colonised by the Brigians. The population was wiped out by the Yevetha during the Black Fleet Crisis.

The planet that The Invisible Hand was built on. The world was recently devastated with radioactivity and fractured to the core by a cataclysmic hyperspace accident involving the Republic's Star Battlecruiser Quaestor.

Peragus II was a world rich in cheap engine fuel for starships. However, the first mining expedition underestimated the explosiveness of the fuel and a giant part of the planet was blasted into space, exposing its core. Later, a mining colony was established on a Peragian asteroid, but was destroyed by Darth Sion while pursuing the Jedi Exile during the events of the game Knights of the Old Republic II . The entire colony, planet and most of the surrounding asteroid field were wiped out in an explosive chain reaction that made the original blast of Peragus' surface "look like a kid's pop detonator".

Polneye was one of a number of settled planets overrun by the Yevetha during the Black Fleet Crisis. Its population were massacred, although one survivor, the Grannan Plat Mallar, was able to get offworld and alert the New Republic.

The Outer Rim world of Pydyr was destroyed by the warlord Kueller as part of his scheme for galactic domination.

This planet, formerly inhabited by humans and an alien species known as "Bouncers", was devastated during fighting between the Jedi and the Sith, 1000 years before the Battle of Yavin. The Battle of Ruusan, the final confrontation between General Hoth's Army of Light and Lord Kaan's Brotherhood of Darkness took place on this world, climaxing in the almost total destruction of the Sith Order by a thought bomb through the manipulations of Darth Bane and the subsequent establishment of the Rule of Two. Now largely uninhabitable, it continues to be used as an offworld base by smugglers and merchants, and is the location of the Valley of the Jedi.

The homeworld of the Neti, Rykk was destroyed by a supernova about 4000 years before the Battle of Yavin. The only survivor was a Neti Jedi master who was offworld at the time.

One of the first targets of Yuuzhan Vong aggression, Sernpidal was destroyed when a Yuuzhan Vong Dovin Basal pulled its moon from orbit. The moon crashed into the planet, destroying it and killing Chewbacca in the process.

The planet of Taris was covered in one giant city similar to Coruscant. During the Jedi Civil War the Jedi Bastila Shan crash landed on the planet after the ship she was on with Revan and Carth Onasi was ambushed by the Sith. Darth Malak wanted to "wipe this pathetic planet from the face of the galaxy" after the Sith couldn't find her on Taris. While Carth, Revan, Bastila, and their companions were able to escape, none of the planet's buildings were standing "over two stories high" when Malak was finished with it.

Telos IV is Carth Onasi's homeworld. It was bombarded by his former mentor Saul Karath to prove his loyalty to Darth Malak. The planet was eventually rebuilt by the Ithorians. It is also the homeworld of Xanatos, Qui-Gon Jinn's corrupted former apprentice.

Thanta Zilbra was the second star system destroyed by Centerpoint Station during the events of the Corellian Trilogy, and the only inhabited system to be destroyed during this crisis. The star went supernova after being hit by a bolt from the Centerpoint starburster, and some of the 10-15,000 inhabitants were evacuated by New Republic forces, though thousands were not. The planet itself was destroyed.

The planet of Toprawa, where the Death Star plans were stolen by Rebel Alliance agents (likely Kyle Katarn), was devastated and economically destroyed by subsequent Imperial reprisals; the surviving population were left dependent on Imperial handouts. As the devastation on Toprawa was still infamous many years after the end of the Empire, it is likely that the planet was rendered barely habitable through Imperial bombardment or other means.

The planet of Tythe once belogned to LiMerge power, but was reduced to a wasteland in a chemical accident. It was the site of several battles during the Clone Wars.
