This is a list of cases and advisory opinions brought to the International Court of Justice since its creation in 1946. Only nation-states have standing to bring forward claims.

This is an incomplete list of cases brought to the International Court of Justice since its creation in 1946.
- Nicaragua v. United States [1986]
- Spain v. Canada [1998] Fisheries jurisdiction
- Croatia v. Yugoslavia (filed 1999)
- Germany v. United States of America [2001] (also known as the "LaGrand case")
- Bosnia and Herzegovina v. Serbia and Montenegro (filed 1993; hearing started 2006; also known as the "Bosnian genocide case")
These are opinions issued by the ICJ that do not have the effect of resolving a specific legal case, but merely advise on the constitutionality or interpretation of a law according to the ICJ's position.
Examples of cases include:
