This is the one where it all began ... Rachel leaves Barry at the altar, meets the gang, and moves in with Monica. Monica, meanwhile, sleeps with Paul the Wine Guy, and Ross is reeling from his divorce from Carol, who has become a lesbian. 

Carol, Ross' ex-wife, tells him at work that she is pregnant with his child, Monica nearly has a breakdown when her parents come for dinner, and Rachel finds out that Barry and her maid of honor Mindy, went on her honeymoon. 

Monica gets a new boyfriend, but everyone like him way more than she does, Chandler starts smoking again, and Phoebe finds a thumb in a can of soda. 

Ross mourns the anniversary of losing his virginity to Carol, Rachel gets her first paycheck, the girls have a slumber party, and George Stephanopoulos's pizza is delivered to Monica by mistake. 

Joey tries to make an old girlfriend jealous and tricks Monica into posing as his new girlfriend, Ross teaches Rachel how to do laundry, and Chandler recruits Phoebe to break up with Janice for him. 

Joey's hired to be Al Pacino's butt double, Chandler becomes a boy-yo, and Monica tries to convince everyone she's not anal. 

There's a blackout in the city, Chandler gets stuck in an ATM vestibule with Jill Goodacre, and Ross attempts to tell Rachel that he has feelings for her. 

Nana dies twice, Monica and her mother come to an understanding, Ross falls into an empty grave, and everyone at Chandler's office thinks he's gay. 

Monica burns her first Thanksgiving dinner as the Underdog balloon gets away, Joey become a poster boy for VD, and Ross sings to his unborn child. 

The gang makes and breaks a pact to celebrate New Year's Eve without dates. Ross compensates for his loneliness by getting a roommate - a monkey named Marcel whom everyone adores. (Well, everyone except Monica, who can't get past the feces-throwing thing.) Phoebe faces a difficult decision when she meets a shy physicist who's thinking about giving up a fellowship in Minsk to stay with her. 

Chandler's romance novelist mom comes to New York to visit him and he's not sure how he feels about it, especially after Joey catches Mrs. Bing and Ross kissing. Meanwhile, Monica and Phoebe compete for the "attention" of Coma Guy, who gets hit by an ambulance after Monica woo-woo's at him on the street. 

Everyone knows the sex of Ross's baby except for Ross, who doesn't want to find out until it's born. Rachel's relationship with Paulo hits a snag when he makes a pass at Phoebe. Monica makes a dozen lasagnas for her aunt, only to discover that her aunt doesn't eat meat. 

After Chandler accidentally sees Rachel wandering around topless after her shower, a chain reaction of nudity ensues when she tries to even the score by seeing his penis. Joey finds himself playing parent when he has to decide whether to hide his father's affair from his mom. And no one can stand Phoebe's new boyfriend, an irritating guy named Roger. 

Ross's first date in nine years is on Valentine's Day with a beautiful neighbour. Susan and Carol, also out on a romantic date; end up at the same restaurant. Joey sets Chandler up on a blind date - with Janice. And Phoebe, Rachel and Monica decide to spend the holiday building a boyfriend bonfire in their apartment. 

Monica cooks a gourmet meal for a restaurateur looking for a new chef. Unfortunately, he's stoned and would just as well eat taco shells as her haute cuisine. After working as a data processing permanent temp for five years, Chandler gets promoted to data processing supervisor, then quits. And Ross has a date with a beautiful colleague named Celia and gives new meaning to the term "spanking the monkey," when he brings her back to his place to meet Marcel. Celia wants to meet his pee-pee, but only if he'll talk dirty to her. 

Joey falls for Phoebe's twin sister, Ursula, making Phoebe feel neglected. Meanwhile, Chandler finds himself between a rock and a hard place, when he is told to fire an employee he is attracted to. And Ross has doubts about parenthood when he attends Lamaze classes with Carol and Susan. 

After weeks of procrastinating, Rachel finally takes down the Christmas light on their balcony, only to fall off the balcony and sprain her ankle. At the hospital, Rachel - who has no insurance - cajoles Monica into trading identities so she can use Monica's coverage. 

Tired of being referred to by customers as "Excuse me," Rachel interviews for a job as an assistant buyer at Saks Fifth Avenue. She also sees another side of the usually docile Ross when the girls face the boys during a not-so-friendly game of poker. 

The gang searches frantically for Marcel, who slipped out of the apartment while Rachel was baby-sitting him. After Marcel is found and safe, Ross finally gets up the courage to try to woo Rachel. But just when it looks like the two might actually spend a romantic evening alone together, Barry, the ex-Mr. Potato Head, barges into the apartment declaring his love for her. 

Rachel and Barry start dating again, which is kind of awkward because he's now engaged to Mindy, who wants Rachel to be her maid of honour. But when Rachel finds out that Mindy and Barry had an affair while she was engaged to Barry, the two women decide to give Barry what for. Meanwhile, Chandler goes nuts when a woman he likes won't return his phone calls. 

When Monica's credit card is stolen, she, along with Phoebe and Rachel, decide to catch the thief. Joey enlists his friends to help him come up with a less ethnic-sounding stage name. And when Ross finds out that Marcel has reached sexual maturity and needs to be with other monkeys, he tries to get him accepted into the Harvard of zoos. 

After losing his virginity to her, Monica's boyfriend Young Ethan reveals that he's a high school senior. Rachel has erotic dreams about Joey and Chandler, making Ross both disgusted and envious. And when Phoebe temps as Chandler's secretary, she finds out that no one at work likes him anymore. 

As Monica's biological clock ticks away like a time bomb, Carol goes into labor. When Ross and Susan can't stop bickering over who gets to help Carol more, Phoebe drags both of them into a closet to settle their differences - but all three end up getting locked in just as Carol's about to give birth to the baby. And Rachel flirts with an OB/GYN who has a love-hate relationship with women's private parts. 

Joey's new girlfriend wants to go to bed with him, but Joey's participation in a fertility study is preventing this. During Rachel's birthday party, Chandler accidentally lets it slip that Ross is in love with her. 

Rachel decides telling Ross that she loves him, waits for him at the airport, not knowing he is returning with a new girlfriend, Julie. Chandler feels guilty, because he told Rachel that Ross loves her and advised Ross to forget Rachel. Joey and Chandler watch sumo on TV, and they got their hair cut by Phoebe. Monica wants her to cut her hair but Phoebe gives her an awful haircut. Chandler needs a suit, so Joey takes him to his tailor. Joey learns that his tailor is a very naughty man. Ross annoys everyone talking about Julie, and Rachel becomes so desperate that she spends the night with Paolo. 

The guys are uncomfortable with Carol's breast milk and Rachel is uncomfortable with Monica's growing friendship with Julie. Meanwhile, Joey competes with a fellow cologne spritzer for the affections of a beautiful colleague. 

Chandler breaks up with his girlfriend, because her nose is too big, but he just wants to save himself from a serious relationship. After Mr. Heckles dies and leaves all his belongings to Monica and Rachel, Chandler discovers eerie similarities between the late eccentric man and his own life. He doesn't want to be like him, so he calls Janice, but he learns that she is married and has children. Ross and Phoebe have a dispute over the progression of evolution. 

The gang is amazed to learn that Phoebe married a gay Canadian ice dancer to help him get his green card. Phoebe thinks that she still loves him. The guy returns and wants to divorce, because he is not really gay and wants to marry again. Interesting facts are revealed about the others, too: Joey starred in a porn film and Chandler has a third nipple. Ross seeks relationship advice from Rachel after revealing that he and Julie have yet to consummate their relationship. Rachel, because she still loves Ross, gives him fake advices hoping that they will break up. 

When a sexy woman calls the wrong number, Chandler seeks to make the most of the situation. Income issues divide the friends: the well-off Ross, Chandler and Monica versus the not-so-well-off Phoebe, Rachel and Joey. 

When Ross has an allergic reaction to Monica's kiwi-lime pie, Chandler and Joey are asked to baby-sit Ross's son Ben. They use Ben to help them try and pick up girls. They leave him accidentally on the bus, later they find him but they are not sure the baby is really Ben. Phoebe loses her Central Perk singing gig to a professional singer. She becames a street singer in front of the café. 

A drunken Rachel is persuaded to call Ross and reveals her feelings for him on his answering machine. And when he finds out, he must make the choice between her and Julie. Meanwhile, Monica finds work as Chandler's personal trainer and Phoebe has a hard time trying to get her boyfriend to have sex with her. Ross and Rachel argue, Ross says that he is with Julie and it's too late for them with Rachel. Later he comes back and they kiss. 

Ross must choose between Rachel and Julie and enlists Joey and Chandler's help in making a list of the pros and cons of each. Big mistake. He chooses Rachel, but she finds the list and gets angry with Ross. Meanwhile, Monica gets a job making food with a synthetic chocolate substitute called Mockolate. 

It's Christmas time and Monica tries tipping with cookies, rather than cash, with mixed results. Phoebe learns that the guy in the pictures her grandmother keeps around is not her father and tries to track down her real father, but in the end she feels that she is not ready for meeting him. Chandler and Joey wait too late to shop for presents. They can't turn down the heating and make a Christmas party in the flat. Ross asks Rachel to make a list about him, but he feels bad about it. 

Monica gets back together with Fun Bobby who has problems with alcohol. Monica tries to help him, Bobby gives up drinking but he is not happy and funny any more. Joey gets chosen to play the role of Dr. Drake Ramoray, a neurosurgeon, on Days of Our Lives. Rachel begins dating a guy named Russ, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Ross. 

Ross's ex and her lesbian lover tie the knot, providing Monica with a job: catering the wedding. Phoebe is possessed by the spirit of an eighty-two year old massage client who dies in the middle of a session. Rachel's mom comes to visit and drops a bombshell. 

Ross goes to visit Marcel while on a trip to California, and finds that the monkey is working in commercials. Joey gets his first fan letter and ends up dating the woman, who turns out to be a stalker who thinks that the happenings on Days of Our Lives are real. Phoebe is asked to sing for the children at the library, but their parents are horrified by her lyrics. However, the kids like the songs and come to the café to listen to her. 

Rachel and Monica compete for the affections of Jean-Claude Van Damme after meeting him on a movie set. Chandler meets a former schoolmate, a makeup artist, who seems to have the hots for him. But it turns out that Chandler once tricked her and she just wants to strike back now. An excited Joey gets a role as an extra in the movie and Ross and Marcel go on a whirlwind tour of the city. 

After getting his big break, with Days of Our Lives, Joey pays Chandler back with $812 and an extremely tacky bracelet. Also, an unemployed Monica is hard up for money. And Monica and Rachel's prom video reveals Monica's former girth, Rachel's former nose and the way Ross has always felt about Rachel. This video brings Rachel to forgive Ross for the list. 

The episode introduces Tom Selleck in the recurring guest role of Dr. Richard Burke, which led to an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for the actor. 

After having a fight with Chandler, Joey decides to move out. Rachel and Phoebe decide to get tattoos. And on his birthday, Mr. Geller receives the unsettling news that his best friend, Richard, and his daughter, Monica, are dating. 

Phoebe is discovered by a record producer who wants to make "Smelly Cat" a video, but finally someone else sings the song in it. Ross's new relationship with Rachel makes Monica feel like she's living with her brother again... and she hates it. And Joey considers moving back in with Chandler, but Chandler has a new roommate. 

Joey finds out the hard way that it's not wise to boast false things: His soap opera character gets dropped down an elevator shaft. Phoebe helps Chandler bond with his new roommate...much to Chandler's horror. And sexual history dominates the discussion between two couples--Monica and Richard, and Ross and Rachel. 

Creeped out by his bizarre new roommate, Chandler demands he move out. Eddie agrees...but doesn't go. Joey has trouble coming to grips with the death of Dr. Drake Ramoray and the accompanying change in his lifestyle. And a new book on empowerment for women inspires the female friends to have a "goddess meeting." Joey moves back to Chandler, they kick out Eddie and they make it up with each other. 

Phoebe's world view is shattered when she learns how "Old Yeller" really ends. She watches all the films her mother didn't let her to watch and becomes sad. Monica becomes jealous when Richard begins going out with other people, namely Joey and Chandler. And Rachel becomes upset when she learns that Ross has planned their whole life together. 

Chandler and Ross run into two bullies at the coffee shop, one of whom steals Chandler's hat. Monica, down to her last few dollars of savings, plays the stock market based solely on the ticker symbols. Phoebe makes multiple attempts to go visit her birth father. She meets her half-brother, Frank Buffay Jr., and learns that her father wasn't at home for four years. 

The gang plans a surprise party for Rachel, but the real surprise is when both of her estranged parents show up for the same party. "Think!" urges Chandler. "What would Jack and Chrissy do?" Why, split it into two parties, of course -- one for each parent. But complications inevitably ensue. 

Phoebe catches chicken pox just as her old flame Ryan arrives in town on leave from the Navy. Even though he hasn't yet had chicken pox, he can't stand to be apart and they both spend the rest of the time trying to not scratch. Joey gets a job at Chandler's office but decides to play it as a role. The character he creates, Joseph, has a wife and kids and ultimately blames Chandler for his own screwup. Monica is upset that Richard doesn't have a "thing": an unexplainable quirk. He eventually comes up with one to ease her mind. 

Rachel agrees to be maid of honor at her ex-fiancé's wedding, but a fashion faux pas focuses attention away from the bride. To get a role in Warren Beatty's new movie, Joey needs to practice kissing ... guys. Monica ponders her future with Richard and Chandler falls for a mystery woman on the Internet who turns out to be Janice. Richard doesn't want to have children, so they break up with Monica. (The sub-plot where Joey has to kiss a man was originally intended to be a story about Joey auditioning for the role of an uncircumcised man. The rest of the group then came up with various ways of making him look the part. The story was changed on the advice of network censors, who thought it was tasteless but it was later used in "The One with Ross and Monica's Cousin".^[1]) 

Ross reveals a fantasy to Rachel involving a certain Star Wars character. Monica suffers from insomnia after her breakup with Richard. And Chandler, back together with Janice, wants Joey to bond with her. This episode prompted an approving letter from George Lucas for its portrayal of Princess Leia. 

Ross is in a hurry to get everyone dressed for an important banquet at the museum but no one is co-operating. 

Phoebe dates a man who thinks he's stalking her twin sister. Ross and Rachel give Chandler "boyfriend" lessons. Monica uses her free time after breaking up with Richard to make jam and considers insemination through a sperm bank. 

Phoebe pretends to be Joey's agent and has some success in getting him auditions. Ross is upset when Ben brings a Barbie doll on his weekend visit. Chandler is advancing in his relationship with Janice and, realizing that he has a fear of commitment, goes to the girls for advice. 

Phoebe's half-brother visits and she offers to give him a massage, but they have trouble bonding. Joey attempts to build an entertainment center. Ross is challenged to name the five celebrities he'd like to sleep with most. 

When Janice asks the gang if any of them have ever slept together, the friends flash back to a time three years before. 

When Monica buys a new bed from Janice's soon-to-be-ex-husband, "The Mattress King," the wrong one is delivered. Rachel's attempts to have her father and Ross bond fail, until she stops trying. Joey gets a job teaching a soap opera acting class. 

When Chandler is about to buy Janice an expensive gift, Joey tells him that he saw Janice kissing her ex-husband. Meanwhile, Monica accidentally bumps Ben's head into a post. Phoebe is convinced that she is cursed because every time she goes to the dentist, someone around her dies, and a toothache is forcing her to make another visit. 

Emotions become the feast of the day when the gang plays a game of touch football on Thanksgiving as Joey and Chandler argue over who gets to date a model and Ross and Monica argue over winning in a case of sibling rivalry. 

Rachel makes a rash decision after Gunther tells her she needs to be retrained. Phoebe tries to help Joey when he gets a job selling Christmas trees. And Ross accidentally breaks a girl's leg and tries to make it up to her. 

Ross is suspicious about Rachel's possible job offer from a good-looking stranger. And a drunken Chandler fools around with one of Joey's sisters, but can't remember which one. 

Ross becomes jealous when he thinks he catches Rachel's new coworker whispering sweet nothings in her ear. After Joey lies on his resume, he is forced to teach a very hard dance to an entire Broadway cast. Monica dates a busboy from the diner. 

Monica's willpower is tested when she runs into Richard at the video store. Joey agrees to read Little Women while Rachel agrees to read The Shining. And Phoebe's athletic date has a problem with short shorts. 

Phoebe is reunited with her former singing partner, who thinks "Smelly Cat" has hit potential. Chandler dates a woman with a prosthetic leg. And Rachel's new job continues to put a strain on her relationship with Ross. 

Ross seeks solace at a party after a bitter fight with Rachel and ends up in the arms of another woman. Phoebe dates a diplomat who needs an interpreter to communicate with her. And Chandler and Joey ponder a ménage a trois with a woman who seems hot for both of them. 

Ross tries to prevent Rachel from learning that he slept with Chloe, the copy store employee. When she finds out anyway and they go back to her apartment and have a fight, the other four friends are trapped in Monica's bedroom, forced to listen in as Rachel decides to break up with Ross. 

Ross and Rachel compete to spend time with their other friends. When a lonely Ross is excluded from Rachel's ski trip with her pals, he visits Carol. Meanwhile, Chandler starts smoking again. 

A desperate Monica agrees to a date with one of her restaurant customers, who turns out to be very, very well-off. Phoebe's half-brother visits and announces he is getting married to a much, much older woman. And Chandler uses a hypnosis tape to quit smoking, with surprising results. 

Rachel goes on her first date after splitting from Ross...and it's with Mark. Joey develops a crush on his costar in his new play. And Monica continues to date Pete, even though she is still not attracted to him. 

Rachel regrets making a date for Chandler and her boss, Joanna. Joey's interest in Kate intensifies after they sleep together. And Monica's aunt dies, leaving her an antique dollhouse, with which Monica doesn't want Phoebe to play with. 

Monica considers a dream job in Pete's new restaurant, but Phoebe fears there is more to the deal. Joey and Chandler adopt a baby chick and a duck. And Ross misses a panel for the Discovery Channel to help Rachel, who may have a broken rib. 

At the premiere of Joey's big play; Ross alone concludes that Rachel's date is insane. Joey falls in love with Kate, but she gets a big job in Los Angeles and takes it. And poor Phoebe is on hold for days with a company she needs to talk to before her phone warranty expires. 

Afflicted with a mysterious skin condition on his butt, Ross seeks advice from Phoebe's herbalist. Phoebe can't choose between dating a fireman or a schoolteacher and attempts to date both without the other finding out. Monica can't decide what to do about Pete when she thinks he is going to propose. 

To Monica's horror, Pete plans to be in an ultimate fight, and when he can't win but won't give up, she must decide her future with him. Chandler has a problem when his new boss is slaphappy. Phoebe sets Ross up on a date with a woman who used to be bald. 

The gang goes to the beach. In search of her father, Phoebe meets a family friend with links to her family's past, who may know more than she's letting on. Ross discovers that Rachel still loves him, and must choose between sex-crazy, but bald, Bonnie and Rachel, the love of his life. After the gang plays strip poker, Joey winds up sleeping naked on the beach. And Chandler wonders why Monica doesn't think he's serious after he asks her if she would ever go out with him. 

Monica is stung by a jellyfish and asks Joey and Chandler to help her. Ross and Rachel almost get back together. 

When Phoebe finds a cat she believes her dead mother's spirit is inside the cat. Joey and Chandler get robbed. 

Chandler dates Joanna again and finally breaks up with her after BDSM in her office. Monica caters a party for her mother, but while preparing the food she loses a fake finger nail. 

Joey attempts ballroom dancing in order to help Monica and Rachel keep their illegal apartment. Chandler wants to quit the gym. 

Chandler starts to fall in love with Joey's new girlfriend. Ross and Rachel become jealous of each other's relationships and Phoebe catches a cold. 

Ross's new girlfriend seems nearly perfect until he visits her house and discovers that her apartment is incredibly dirty. Chandler buys Kathy a present. 

Chandler must decide between the girl of his dreams and his best friend when he and Kathy share a passionate kiss. 

Chandler agrees to spend Thanksgiving in a shipping crate as penance for kissing Kathy. Monica invites Richard's son over for Thanksgiving. 

Chandler and Ross's friend "Gandalf" is planning to come to town. They are very excited until he cancels. 

Ross must decide whether to continue dating a girl he must travel two-and-a-half hours to see. Phoebe tries to write the perfect Christmas song. 

Phoebe doesn't know what to do when Frank Jr. visits with his new wife and asks her to carry their child. 

The girls lose a bet and have to switch apartments with the boys. Phoebe announces she is pregnant. 

Chandler breaks up with Kathy after seeing her having simulated sex on stage with another man. Rachel has a crush on Joshua, a customer. 

Joey has to go to Charlton Heston's new movie but smells awful. Rachel sets Ross up with her boss's niece, Emily. 

Ross plays rugby union with some of Emily's English friends. Chandler runs into Janice and tells her he's moving to Yemen in an effort to escape reuniting with her. Monica obsesses over a light switch that doesn't seem to control anything. 

Rachel throws a fake party for Emily (who's returning to London) just so she can see Joshua outside of work. 

Chandler and Joey discover that they're getting a free porno channel on their TV. Ross tells Emily how he feels about her. 

Joshua invites Rachel to his parents' house. Phoebe is offered the chance to name one of the triplets and chooses "Chandler." 

While Chandler and Joey are at a Knicks game, Monica and Rachel switch the apartments back. Ross proposes to Emily and she accepts. 

Ross asks Monica to pick up Emily's wedding dress and instead Monica tries the dress on and keeps it. Chandler takes Joey to a clinic because he snores all the time. 

Ross and Emily are sending their wedding invitations; Emily doesn't think it's a good idea to invite Rachel, but Ross invites her anyway. After remembering scenes from previous episodes, Rachel decides not to go. 

Ross chooses Chandler as his best man, but picks Joey instead when Chandler says Ross won't be his best man. Joey loses Ross's ring. The girls give Phoebe a baby shower. 

All the friends are going to London, except for Phoebe (who's pregnant) and Rachel (who thinks it will be too painful to see Ross get married). 

Rachel decides to go to Ross's wedding after all, to say she still loves him. Chandler and Monica sleep together. At the altar, Ross says the wrong name: Rachel's. 

After having said the wrong name at the altar, Ross tries to patch things up with Emily. Monica and Chandler lay ground rules for their new relationship. 

Monica and Chandler try to hide their relationship. Phoebe's water breaks. 

Phoebe gives birth to her brother's triplets. Chandler (the baby) is a girl. Joey gets sick at the hospital. 

Phoebe tries to find a selfless good deed. Emily agrees to come to New York - if Ross promises to stop being friends with Rachel. 

Chandler and Monica go away for the weekend but spend the entire time fighting. Ross tells Rachel about his agreement with Emily. Joey finds out about Monica and Chandler. 

Emily's demands become more and more unreasonable, so Ross tells her she's got to trust him or their marriage won't work. Monica and Rachel are scared by a very hairy guy. 

Ross moves in with Chandler and Joey. Phoebe dates a health inspector who keeps shutting down her favorite restaurants. 

Past Thanksgivings are revealed. These include Chandler insulting Monica, Monica's accidental revenge, and Joey with his head stuck in a turkey. 

Ross loses his temper - and possibly his job - after someone eats his sandwich. Joey gets tired of hiding Monica and Chandler's secret. Phoebe and Rachel go to a class together. 

Ross helps Joey write a screenplay. Rachel starts dating Danny, but is put off by his close relationship with his sister. 

The gang makes New Year's resolutions. Rachel finds out about Monica and Chandler, but can't tell anyone since she's resolved to stop gossiping. Ross has trouble with his new leather pants. 

Monica finds out that Chandler kisses up to his boss at work. Ross learns Emily is engaged again, and has a one-night stand with someone the group is all too familiar with. 

Phoebe's grandmother dies, and she meets someone she's been looking for since childhood. Joey starts carrying a "man's bag." 

Phoebe finds out about Monica and Chandler, so she and Rachel play practical jokes on them. Monica and Chandler realize something's up so they play along. Ugly Naked Guy sublets his apartment and is greeted with a number of applicants - including Ross. 

Joey dates a girl who likes to punch him. Ross gets off on the wrong foot with his new neighbors. 

Phoebe finds a police badge at the coffeehouse and has fun pretending she's a cop - until she pulls it on the owner. Ross buys a new couch. 

Rachel interviews with Ralph Lauren and accidentally kisses her interviewer. 

Rachel tries to take up smoking so she'll feel more included at work. Ben and Joey audition for a soup commercial. 

Ross has trouble flirting with the pizza delivery girl. Joey invites his grandmother over to watch his role on Law and Order - but his part's been cut. 

Ross, Joey and Chandler go on a ride-along with Phoebe's cop boyfriend Gary. Monica and Rachel intercept a message from Emily. 

Phoebe and Gary move in together - then break up after he shoots a bird. Rachel buys a hairless Sphinx cat. The rest of the gang tosses a ball around for a very long time. 

Joey gets the lead in a movie; Chandler doesn't think it's his big break. Phoebe is mad at Ross, but can't remember why. Rachel has to see the eye doctor but doesn't want to. 

Monica has lunch with Richard but doesn't want to tell Chandler. The gang goes to Vegas to see Joey. Rachel wanders her apartment naked. 

Phoebe and Joey get thrown out of a casino. Chandler and Monica contemplate marriage, and almost go through with it - until they see a drunken, newly married Ross and Rachel leave the chapel. 

Ross and Rachel deal with the aftermath of their drunken escapade. Phoebe and Joey take a road trip. Monica and Chandler ponder the idea of marriage. 

Monica and Chandler tell Rachel (who doesn't know she's still married to Ross) that they're moving in together. Phoebe thinks Ross still loves Rachel especially when he hugs Rachel. 

Ross tries to deny he still has feelings for Rachel. Monica and Chandler fight over their spare bedroom. 

Joey's health benefits lapse just as he develops a hernia. Rachel finds out she and Ross are still married. 

While trying to get an annulment, Rachel reveals it was her idea to get married. Phoebe baby-sits the triplets and ropes in Monica and Chandler. But Chandler swallows a toy gun and has to be taken to the hospital leaving Phoebe alone. 

Chandler tries to give Joey money and Phoebe starts an argument between Monica and Rachel on the last night before Chandler moves in with Monica. 

Rachel is embarrassed by Phoebe's odd running style. Joey takes in a new roommate: Dancer Janine. 

Ross goes too far while trying to impress a date. Phoebe may or may not have made out with Ralph Lauren which gets Rachel into trouble with her boss. 

Ross is forced to tell Chandler why Jack and Judy don't like him. Rachel tries to make dessert. Joey and Ross try and get out of Thanksgiving when they are invited to hang out with Janine and her dancer friends. 

Janine gets a job dancing for Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve and invites Joey, Ross, and Monica to come with her. Meanwhile, Phoebe, Chandler, and Rachel look for Monica's Christmas presents. 

Rachel has a problem when she buys a new table from Pottery Barn - and learns Phoebe hates the store. 

Ross gets a joke printed in Playboy; Chandler claims credit for it. 

Joey gives all the pretty female customers free stuff at the coffee house. Monica is sick and won't admit it. Rachel's sister, Jill, shows up because she's been financially cut off and has to try to make it on her own. 

Chandler admits that not much makes him cry. Phoebe becomes a victim of mistaken identity. 

The gang ponders what might have been if Ross and Carol stayed married, Monica had still been fat, Chandler was a struggling writer, Joey still worked on Days of Our Lives, Rachel had married Barry, and Phoebe had become a stockbroker. 

A continuation of the alternate reality, including Rachel almost having an affair with Joey, Carol realizing she is a lesbian, Phoebe gets fired from her job, and Chandler convincing Monica to sleep with him. 

Ross tries to teach Rachel and Phoebe martial arts. Chandler and Monica forget to make each other home-made Valentine's Day gifts - but don't tell each other. 

Ross starts dating a student from one of his paleontology classes. Rachel and Phoebe's apartment catches fire causing them to fight over who gets to live in Monica's apartment and who gets to live in Joey's. 

Joey's refrigerator breaks, but he can't afford a new one. Ross's student girlfriend goes on Spring Break. 

Joey auditions for the lead in a TV show. 

Ross is nervous when he meets Elizabeth's father for the first time. 

Ross and Elizabeth sneak away to her family's cabin - not knowing Paul and Rachel have the same idea. The girls put their names down on a wedding list which gets back to Chandler Chandler reveals he has big plans for Monica. 

Phoebe helps Chandler pick out an engagement ring for Monica. Paul cannot stop crying after Rachel has him open up. Joey and Ross decides to close Chandler out. 

Chandler's plans to propose are thrown off when they run into Richard. Joey accidentally buys a sailboat in an auction. 

Richard reveals he's still in love with Monica. Rachel and Phoebe arrange "backups". Chandler and Monica get engaged. 

Monica accuses Rachel of stealing her thunder by kissing Ross. 

Monica finds out her parents have spent her wedding fund. Joey finds an erotic novel Rachel's been reading. 

Phoebe wants to give Monica her grandmother's secret cookie recipe - but the recipe was destroyed in the fire. Rachel teaches Joey how to sail. 

Rachel hires a hunky young guy, Tag, to be her executive assistant. 

Chandler can't seem to photograph well. 

Joey and Ross take a nap together. Phoebe and Rachel compete to be Monica's maid of honor. 

Ross is happy his dissertation is in the school library - until he finds out where it's located. 

Phoebe sneaks a puppy into the apartment; Chandler reveals why he hates dogs. Ross becomes obsessed with naming all 50 states in order to earn his Thanksgiving dinner. 

Monica's plan to get to know her neighbors backfires. Phoebe finally gets her first bicycle, thanks to Ross. 

Ross wants to introduce Ben to Hanukkah. Phoebe fears that Rachel doesn't want to live with her anymore now that their apartment is done. 

Rachel and Chandler get hooked on cheesecakes meant for someone else. David, Phoebe's Scientist Guy, comes into town for just one night. 

Everyone is awake for the night. Monica and Chandler try to spend the night like old times, Rachel and Tag search for a file, Joey and Ross try to get off the roof after looking for a comet, and Phoebe's fire alarm wont stop beeping causing her to go a little crazy 

Rachel and Chandler both think they've broken Rosita, Joey's favorite chair. Monica and Ross go their parents house which they are selling. Phoebe takes a tele-marketing job. 

Rachel frets over turning thirty, prompting everyone else to remember what they did when they reached the same milestone. 

Joey's Days of Our Lives character has another famous one's brain trasplanted into his body, and tells the actress by accident. Ross cooks up a special surprise for the wedding. (This was one of the episodes that was longer than usual as a promotional stunt for the network in order to compete against Survivor. Matt LeBlanc was nervous at performing with Sarandon. Similarly, Kevin Bright was cautious about directing, as Tim Robbins attended the studio recording.^[2]) 

Rachel teaches Ben practical jokes. Chandler learns that Monica was actually planning on sleeping with Joey the night they first got together. 

Monica and another bride-to-be fight over a wedding dress. Joey and Ross fight over the same girl they met and go to drastic measures to win. 

Joey is nominated for a "Soapie." One of Ross's students claims he is in love with him to get a higher mark on a test. 

Ross and Monica's gorgeous cousin Cassie comes to visit. Rachel and Phoebe quickly throw together a shower for Monica. Joey auditions for a part and told a lie about his 'downstairs' area that he and Monica try to fix so he can still get the part. (The sub-plot where Joey auditions for the role of an uncircumcised man was originally written for "The One with Barry and Mindy's Wedding" but the story was changed on the advice of network censors, who thought it was tasteless.^[3]) 

Rachel runs into a former sorority sister with whom she once had a passionate night. Chandler and Ross sample celebrity tuxes. 

Chandler and Monica struggle to write their wedding vows. The group remember the journey Monica and Chandler have made the past few years. 

Chandler tries to reconcile with his estranged father. Rachel takes Monica's Porsche for a spin with Ross and Joey takes advice from Phoebe about his masculinity, resulting in him trying on women's underwear 

Joey gets a part in a movie. Chandler gets cold feet. Phoebe finds someone's positive pregnancy test. 

Joey gets stuck at work and almost misses the ceremony. Monica and Chandler become husband and wife. Everyone thinks Monica is pregnant, when it's actually someone else. (The two-parter was filmed over two weeks, with all of the scenes featuring Gary Oldman being filmed in the first week. The wedding was filmed in the second week, with the final shot of Rachel filmed after the studio audience had left.^[4]) 

Ross thinks Monica's pregnant, but her denial quickly shifts the focus to Phoebe, taking the heat off of Rachel. Chandler's shoes are slippery. Joey tries to impress a broadway director. Ross dances with children to impress a woman. 

Joey finds a red sweater in his apartment and realises it's the sweater of the father of Rachel's baby. Phoebe thinks it's Tag Jones' and arranges a meeting for Rachel with him. Ross and Chandler attempt to recreate the wedding pictures. 

Chandler and Monica prepare to leave for their honeymoon as Rachel prepares to tell Ross that he's the father of her baby. Phoebe and Joey try to get into Monica and Chandler's apartment. 

Ross and Rachel disagree over who came onto whom when they hooked up. He wants to prove it and accidentally reveals that he has the encounter on videotape. Monica and Chandler meet another couple while on their honeymoon. 

Phoebe begins dating a guy who works for Monica, causing a problem when Phoebe wants to dump him on the same day Monica plans to fire him. A guy at Chandler's work thinks that Chandler's name is Toby. 

Monica and Chandler are throwing a Halloween Party. At the party Phoebe runs into her sister's fiance, Eric (Sean Penn). Ross and Chandler arm wrestle. 

Chandler hires a maid to help Monica but she thinks the maid is stealing her clothes. Eric broke up with Ursula and wants to date Phoebe but she reminds him too much of her sister. 

Rachel's having dinner with her dad to tell him that she's pregnant. Meanwhile Monica hires a stripper, who turns out to be a hooker, for Chandler. 

Monica invites a high school friend, Will (Brad Pitt) to her Thanksgiving dinner. He and Ross started a rumor about Rachel having both male and female "body parts". Joey tries to eat an entire turkey. Chandler and Phoebe avoid work. 

Monica buys very expensive boots and promises Chandler to wear them all the time. After a while they are killing Monica's feet but she doesn't dare to tell it to Chandler. 

Ross freaks out when Mona wants to send out joint Christmas cards and wants to have "the talk". Chandler tries to get out of spending time with his boss. 

Now that Rachel can't go on dates anymore due her pregnancy Joey decides to take her on a date. Monica and Chandler get a Ms. Pacman arcade game for a wedding present. Ross is late for his classes. 

Monica turns Chandler on to the concept of a bath to relax. Rachel and Ross learn the baby's sex (a girl). Everybody finds out about Joey's feelings for Rachel. 

Chandler becomes obsessed with finding out what is behind the door of Monica's secret closet. Phoebe feels betrayed when she discovers Monica has been using a different massage therapist. 

Phoebe gives a birthing video to Rachel. Monica, Rachel and Chandler freak out when they watch the video. 

Joey confesses his love for Rachel, but Rachel politely and lovingly turns him down. 

Phoebe determines through tea leaves that she'll soon meet the man of her dreams. 

Monica writes a speech for her parent's 35th wedding anniversary. Phoebe dates Parker (Alec Baldwin), who's very enthusiastic about everything. Ross and Rachel has to pretend to be married in front of their related. 

Joey prepares for an interview with Soap Opera Digest, although he's afraid of appearing stupid, so he enlists his friends to make sure things go well. 

Phoebe and Monica prepares for Rachel's baby shower and forgets to invite Rachel's mother. Joey auditions for a job as a game show host. 

Monica's cooking skills get a bad review in The Post. After confronting the critic who wrote it, she decides to join a cooking class, with Joey in tow. 

Joey invites Chandler to his movies premiere but Chandler falls asleep during it. Monica and Phoebe bet on when Rachel's baby will come. Rachel's water breaks. 

Ross and Rachel arrive at the hospital. Judy Geller arrives too and gives Ross her mother's engagement ring. Monica and Chandler decide to have a baby. 

After 47 hours of labor, Rachel has her baby, Emma. Joey finds the engagement ring. Rachel thinks he's proposing and says "Okay". 

Joey tries to tell Rachel he didn't propose to her. Monica and Chandler try for a baby of their own. 

Rachel can't get Emma to stop crying. Chandler accidentally agrees to relocate to Tulsa, whilst Joey and Ross end up in hospital. 

Phoebe and Joey set each other up on blind dates. Rachel takes Emma to the pediatrician - and learns that Ross is still a patient. 

Monica thinks Chandler is aroused by shark documentaries. Joey thinks he's already slept with the girl he's dating. 

Phoebe plans a night out for her birthday, but she and Joey are the only ones on time. Chandler smokes. 

Ross and Rachel hire a male nanny. 

Ross finds a way to make Emma laugh - singing "Baby Got Back." Phoebe meets Mike's parents. 

Amy, Rachel's spoiled, irresponsible sister, shows up for Thanksgiving. The gang argues over who gets custody of Emma if Ross and Rachel die. 

Rachel gives a guy her phone number, but regrets it later. Joey thinks Monica is having an affair when Chandler claims that he's having to work to get out of going to a game. 

Chandler, stuck in Tulsa for Christmas, quits his job when a female co-worker makes a pass at him. 

Rachel returns from maternity leave early when she finds out the temp hired to fill in for her wants her job permanently. 

Phoebe adopts an orphaned rat family. Ross and Rachel hire a new nanny, but Ross becomes worried when Joey starts hitting on her. Rachel continues to quarrel with Gavin, but something may be hiding behind the hostile exterior. 

Monica sings at Mike's piano bar; the patrons love her - but not because of her singing, really because they can see through her shirt. 

To get Ross and Rachel to realize they're perfect for each other, Phoebe and Joey set them up on bad blind dates. 

Phoebe and Ross get mugged by one of Phoebe's old friends on the street, and Ross learns exactly who mugged him when he was a teen; Phoebe. Chandler gets an advertising internship, but feels out of place due to his age. 

Chandler and Monica each ask Joey for a loan behind each others back. Chandler finds out that Monica had asked for money so Joey convinces him that Monica wants breast implants. Rachel babyproofs the apartment - and ends up Joeyproofing it as well. 

Ross and Chandler post false information about each other on their college's alumni website, resulting in Chandler being posted as being gay while Ross is dead. 

The gang buys lottery tickets and Chandler waits for a promotion. Rachel goes all crazy when Emma says her first word. 

Rachel develops feelings for Joey. Phoebe performs at Monica's restaurant, much to Monica's dismay. Chandler plans a weekend getaway for Monica and himself, and when Monica can't go because of her new job, he takes Ross instead. 

Joey holds a party for his Days castmates - but doesn't want his friends to come. 

Chandler and Monica undergo fertility testing and encounter a surprise face and Rachel goes to the massage centre where Phoebe works. 

Chandler and Monica search for a sperm donor. 

The gang goes to Barbados for Ross's conference. David, Phoebe's Scientist Guy, almost proposes to her - but her ex-boyfriend Mike does so before he gets the chance. Ross and Charlie find they have a lot in common. Rachel and Joey get even closer. Monica has trouble with her hair. 

Joey and Charlie break up; when he spies Charlie kissing Ross, he kisses Rachel. Monica and Mike play ping-pong to the distaste of Chandler and Phoebe. 

Ross and Joey decide to talk to each other about Charlie and Rachel. Monica comes up with an interesting way to deal with her hair problem. Phoebe helps Mike break up with his girlfriend, Precious. 

Ross pretends to be fine with Joey and Rachel's relationship, Phoebe and her brother Frank try and decide which of the triplets will live with Phoebe and Chandler accidentally tells a little boy he was adopted. 

Ross gets confused while getting a spray-on tan, resulting in his front being heavily tanned while his back is left untouched, and the friend's can't help but laugh at Ross' new look. Joey and Rachel decide dating each other is too weird. Monica and Phoebe try unsuccessfully to 'cut out' a former friend, Amanda. 

Rachel orders a special cake for Emma's first birthday - but there's been a mix-up at the bakery. The others all want to leave the party early. 

Rachel's older sister Amy baby-sits Emma, in order to prove to that she's responsible - with disastrous results. Mike attempts to propose to Phoebe numerous times. 

Ross applies for a paleontology grant - and finds out Charlie's ex-boyfriend reviews the applications. 

The adoption agency sends a woman Joey dumped to Monica and Chandler's apartment. Phoebe and Mike donate their wedding fund to charity, then have a change of heart. Ross attempts to help Rachel get over her fear of swings. 

Monica and Chandler grudgingly agree to host Thanksgiving. They get angry when their friends show up late (Ross and Joey having gone to a game and Rachel and Phoebe having taken Emma to a baby beauty pageant), but their mood changes when they get good news from the adoption agency. 

Monica and Chandler meet the birth mother of their prospective child, but their files have been mixed up. Ross has a fashion mishap. 

Rachel and Phoebe see Chandler with a blonde stranger and think he's having an affair. Monica and Chandler reveal their plans to buy a house outside the city. 

Monica and Rachel hire a male stripper (Danny DeVito) at the last minute for Phoebe's bachelorette party; she makes him cry. Joey guests on a game show, but doesn't do well. Ross and Chandler goes to a college reunion where Ross finds out something bad. 

Phoebe's stepdad can't come to the wedding, and one of Mike's groomsmen drops out - events which spark a contest between Ross and Chandler to take up the respective positions. 

Phoebe tries to teach Joey how to speak French for a play. Rachel's dad has a heart attack. Erica, the birth mother of Chandler and Monica's prospective child, comes for a visit and drops a bombshell. 

Rachel loses her job at Ralph Lauren when her boss catches her interviewing for a position at Gucci. She then gets a job offer in Paris. Newly married Phoebe tries to change her name to Princess Consuela Bananahammock; Mike has to find a way to change her mind. 

Joey's agent dies, but the gang doesn't want to tell him. Janice almost moves into the neighboring house Chandler and Monica are buying. Ross tries to get Rachel her job back. 

Ross is hurt when Rachel says her goodbyes to everyone except him. Monica and Chandler start packing up their apartment. Erica goes into labor. 

Ross and Rachel sleep together - Ross thinks it'll make her stay; Rachel thinks it's a good way to say goodbye. Gunther tells Rachel he's in love with her. Everyone's surprised when Erica delivers twins. 

Ross and Phoebe race to the airport to tell Rachel of his feelings - but she gets on the plane anyway. She then has a change of heart and reconciles with Ross. The gang turn in their keys to Monica and Chandler's apartment and go out for one last coffee all together.
