List of Anglo-Maratha Wars

The Anglo-Maratha Wars were a series of wars in the 18th century, fought in India, between the Maratha Empire and the British East India Company.

By the second half of the 18th century, the Marathas controlled over three-quarters of the Indian subcontinent. With the East India Company pushing economic and political influence ever inward, a clash was inevitable. Once conflict broke out, it flared sporadically for two generations, stretching from the Treaty of Surat in 1775 until the Pindari War in 1817.

Note: Those unfamiliar with South Asian history often find it difficult to trace the Anglo-Maratha Wars as they overlap with the Third and Fourth Anglo-Mysore Wars in which the Marathas were, respectively, British allies and then neutral. Thus the following chronology indicates both the major Maratha and Mysorean wars of this period:-
