Khanate was an extreme doom metal supergroup that brought together James Plotkin and Alan Dubin, two members of the defunct band OLD, as well as Tim Wyskida (of Blind Idiot God and Manbyrd) and Stephen O'Malley (of Burning Witch and Sunn O))) fame).

It was rather similar, maybe an evolution, of O'Malley's previous band Burning Witch. The band produced songs that usually exceeded the 10 minute mark, and were characterised by long, almost decayed time signatures, and harsh layers of feedback combined with vocalist Alan Dubin's torturous vocals, consisting of extremely painful shrieking and screaming.

One of the most original and innovative bands in the field of doom metal, Khanate took the roots of blues/hard rock/doom, extracted from them the fundamental elements and combined them in their own way. They took their name from the area controlled by a khan.

As of the 24th of September 2006, Khanate is no more, with Plotkin stating that the "lack of commitment from certain members" led to the split. [1]
