The area was made up of farmlands and some forests dominated the area. The area was of mixed farming which included pastures, vegetables and groves. In the mid-20th century, suburban housing developments from Athens came over and eliminated farmlands leaving empty space in the southeast. The forests are situated in the east which is Mount Hymettus' largest forest. The forest also contains a valley with a road linking Athens' nearby communication tower. The University of Athens is to the northeast mainly in Zografou. The rest of the area is made up of residential buildings. Kaisariani has a hill in the centre. Much of the land in the east is the rocky landscapes and forests of Hymettus. The municipality is about 85 square kilometres, of which 75 square kilometres are a mountainous part and are also forested.
The Kaisariani Monastery is founded in the southeast in the Hymettus mountain.
The eastern bypass of Athens is in the east.
Kaisariani also has a basketball team named Near East Kaisariani which was founded in 1927. They play in Kaisariani Stadium.
The municipality was created in 1934 out of a former subdivision of the city of Athens.
Kaisariani has schools, lyceums, gymnasia, banks, post offices and squares (plateies).
