Originally, 98.7 FM was KBBC broadcasting Easy Listening music programming.
In the early 1970’s, the format evolved into an Soft Adult Contemporary music format branded as "K-Lite" along with a change of call letters to KKLT.
On April 8, 2005, the format was changed to Adult Hits along with a change of call letters to KPKX. The station is known as “98.7 The Peak”.
KPKX operates a commercial-free, DJ-free, 80's pop hits format on its HD-2 digital subchannel, which is also streaming online at its website.
