John Tauranac

John Tauranac is a writer and designer. He is best-known as the chair of the committee that produced the official New York City subway map in 1979, although the design of map itself is credited to Michael Hertz. He has also written books on New York architecture, as well as a feature in New York Magazine about the tunnels under the midtown streets.
Tauranac has received a commendation for design excellence from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Mayor's Office named him a Centennial Historian of the City of New York.
He is currently an adjunct associate professor of arts at New York University's school of Continuing and Professional Arts.
