John Huarte (born April 6, 1944 in Anaheim, California) played American football for the University of Notre Dame after graduating from Mater Dei High School, Santa Ana. During his sophomore and junior years at Notre Dame, John played for only a few minutes per game. As a senior, however, John became the starting quarterback and led the Fighting Irish to only one loss during the season of 1964, in which he also won the Heisman Trophy. He was drafted in 1965 by the American Football League's New York Jets, but never played for the team.
