Jimmy Jannetty

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Georgia Lightning" Jimmy Jannetty is an American professional wrestler who worked for the Tri-State Wrestling Alliance, Eastern Championship Wrestling, Liberty All-Star Wrestling, and the Mid- Eastern Wrestling Federation.

Jimmy Jannetty garnered acclaim while touring with the Philadelphia-based Tri-State Wrestling Alliance. His high-flying style led fans to nickname him "Georgia Lightning". In the TWA, he formed a successful tag team with Rockin Rebel known as The Confederacy. Jannetty and Rebel were top contenders for the TWA Tag Team titles, feuding with teams such as The Super Destroyers, The Flames, and The Blackharts, managed by Luna Vachon. As a singles wrestler, Jannetty feuded with Glen Osbourne and C.N. Redd.

The TWA abruptly closed in late 1991. It was replaced in early 1992 by Eastern Championship Wrestling, direct precursor to Extreme Championship Wrestling. Jannetty has the unique distinction of participating in ECW's first-ever match, wrestling to a time-limit draw against Stevie Richards. After leaving ECW, Jannetty began touring the Mid-Atlantic independent circuit. He teamed with "Ramblin'" Rich Meyers to win the MEWF Tag Team titles on 10 separate occasions, marking them as the promotion's most successful tag team ever. Jannetty rounded out his career with a successful run in the Pennsylvania-based Liberty All-Star Wrestling. He settled in Virginia and retired from pro wrestling in 2002.
