Tomcat Jetpack

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Tomcat Jetpack" is the eighteenth sub-episode of Tom and Jerry Tales.

Tom, Jerry, and Spike are chasing each other in a neighborhood, tearing everything in their path apart. A mysterious truck passes by outside on the street, hitting a bump and dropping a wrapped package out the back. It appears to be an ordinary and somewhat silly-looking vest, and Spike encourages Tom to put it on. When he does, he is surprised when it turns into a Rocketeer-esque flying suit. Tom has fun flying about, doing things like skywriting rude caricatures of Spike and Jerry, teasing a bird nesting on the roof, and crashing a barbecue. After Jerry and Spike get fed up with his tricks, they scheme to take the airborne airhead down.

  • A flowerbox is knocked straight up into the air by Spike, Tom, and Jerry's antics and comes down looking like a grave and headstone.
  • The scene with the package falling out of a truck is very reminiscent of the 1946 classic The Truce Hurts, except it unrolls to reveal the flying vest rather than a tasty steak.
  • Droopy makes a cameo appearance as a barbecuing homeowner.
  • The animated jetpack effects are a direct homage to those trailing the magic broom in the classic Tom and Jerry theatrical short "The Flying Sorceress."
