Jetix is a children's television programming brand owned by The Walt Disney Company broadcast in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It was previously known as Fox Kids.

The United Kingdom and Ireland channel became Jetix on 1st January, 2005 at midnight. Most Jetix channels are basic cable or satellite pay channels. Jetix is also available as a timeshift hour-delay channel named Jetix+1. The UK and Ireland channel is carried on Sky Digital, Virgin Media, HomeChoice and Chorus.

Contents

The Jetix brand was gently introduced to the UK in the form of a programming block on Fox Kids. Beginning in April 2004, it aired every day between the hours of 3pm and 7pm. In September of 2004, the block was also included in the morning line-up, airing between 7am and 9am.

The Jetix block featured the following programs; Shaman King, Sonic X, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Jackie Chan Adventures, Totally Spies, Black Hole High, Goosebumps, MegaMan: NT Warrior, Martin Mystery, Robot Wars, and Power Rangers Ninja Storm plus Shorts for Shin Chan.

When Fox Kids formally rebranded as Jetix on January 1, 2005, the Jetix block was dropped, and the shows reintegrated into the normal schedule.

Since the launch of Pucca on Jetix (mid way though July 2006), Jetix has offered an online "Video On Demand" service [1], allowing viewers to watch "Exclusive to web" Pucca Shorts (Titled "Pucca: Funny ♥ Love"). Adverts for the TV episodes of Pucca run before and after each short. Since the UK TV airing of Power Rangers: Mystic Force, all Pucca: Funny ♥ Love episodes have been replaced with clips of Power Rangers: Mystic Force (Intrestenly enough, on AOL Browsers, debug information is also shown).

Similarly to Toonami (US)'s Toonami Jetstream Service, Jetix VOD is exclusive to the United Kingdom and Internet Explorer (5.0 and later) users. Attempting to launch the service ether from outside the UK (Or rather, not using a UK IP address) or using a non Internet Explorer web browser will lead to an error message being displayed and the service not running.

Future Publishing publishes the official Jetix Magazine. Published every four weeks the magazine features puzzles and features based on the channel's characters plus a six page Power Rangers comic. The magazine also comes with a free DVD featuring shows from the channel.

New issues contain an Sonic X comic which is not related to the current Sonic X comic series by Archie.

Both Fox Kids and Jetix have had a history of special programing events, typically comprising of marathons or back-to-back episodes of various shows, such as Jackie Chan, Power Rangers or other similar popular franchises. On some occasions, certain special events have been known to feature an additional on-screen graphic during the day in question, as well as other specially created promotional channel idents. These special events are usually placed around public holidays or school breaks.

Some examples of past Jetix events are;

  • December 2002 - Cheeky Xmas
  • February 2003 - Chantastic Challenge
  • May 2003 - Marvellous Half-term
  • July 2003 - Get Away With It
  • December 2003 - Action Xmas
  • December 2006 - 12 Days of Jetix
  • February 2007 - Yin Yang Yoverthrow!
  • April 2007 - Totally Ninja Easter

Since in 2005, the evening slot was called Jetix Max. The shows were shown on that slot were W.I.T.C.H., Totally Spies, Martin Mystery, Funky Cops, Power Rangers, PXG and Black Hole High have also been shown in the slot. The Jetix Max branding was dropped in June 2006.

After Jetix UK was launched when it was named, Fox Kids, it started with the broadcasting time, 6am - 7pm then later, 6am - 10pm and then later in 3 November 2003, the channel became 24 hours, however since March 2006, Jetix UK shows the Teleshopping Presentation from 11pm - 2am.
