Jason started his radio career in college on the Syracuse campus station, Z89 in the late 1980's. After college, he left radio to produce television for ESPN in Connecticut. In 1996, he moved to Los Angeles to produce television for FOX Sports. In 2000, he went to FOX sports radio and started as a fill-in. He soon became a permanent co-host with Jim Daniels in two different time slots. He left Fox in early 2004. He went back to producing television briefly for the show The Sports List. In the fall 2004, he joined the ranks of ESPN as fill-in and weekend host of GameDay with Mel Kiper, Jr. In 2005, he took over AllNight and has been its host since.

Jason often partakes in a segment named "Crosstalk" when he appears during the final segment on "GameNight" on ESPN Radio.

Partner of actress, Pamela Porter (1996-present). They live together in Los Angeles, CA.

  • Jason Smith is known to talk only about Football and Baseball on his radio-show ignoring all other sports much to the chagrin of listeners with more diversified sports interests. This is not necessarily a bad thing though considering there is no evidence he has ever witnessed an NBA game either on television or in person.
  • Reports have surfaced that Jason scored lower on an intelligence test than a walrus with down-syndrome. When asked to comment about this on his radio program by Beano Cook, all Jason could reply was "Mrumphading".
  • On September 18, 1995 Smith pleaded guilty to charges of public intoxication, and was sentenced to 120 days in prison. Allegedly, following a screening of the Mel Gibson Oscar winning movie Braveheart, Smith proceeded to run in front of the screen, drop his pants, and shove a large flower of broccoli into his anus.
