IMDb profile

It Happened in Athens was a 1962 comedy film released by 20th Century Fox. This was film star Jayne Mansfield's last film to be released by studio 20th Century Fox. Often associated as one of her loan out films from Fox, it is actually a big budgeted studio movie and filmed in Cinemascope. Filmed in the fall of 1960 and released two years later, the film stars newcomer Trax Colton as a Greek peasant boy determined to enter the first Olympic Games. Jayne plays against type as a villainous stage actress with her eyes set on Colton. Jayne receives top billing but is actually in a supporting role, most likely a ploy by Fox to have a big star in a film set to introduce newcomer Colton. The film co-starred Greek-American actor Nico Minardos in the role of Lt. Minardos, the favorite to win the marathon and Mansfield's primary love interest. Olympian Bob Mathias also appeared as a member of the U.S. Olympic team.
