International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles, also known as Fédération Internationale des Luttes Associées (FILA), is an International wrestling federation that holds events around the world. It is the governing body of international amateur wrestling.

FILA was founded in 1912 after discussions between the national wrestling federations of several countries determined the need to establish uniform guidelines for rules for the various international styles of wrestling.

FILA is governed by a governing bureau with input from national federations. The bureau is headed by a president.

The current president of FILA is Raphaël Martinetti, who has served in that role since 2002. Prior presidents include:

  • Einaar Raberg (Sweden) 1921 - 1924
  • Alfred Brüll (Hungary) 1924 - 1930
  • Viktor Smeds (Finland) 1930 - 1952
  • Roger Coulon (France) 1952 - 1971
  • Milan Ercegan (Yougoslavia) 1972 - 2002[1]
