The Intel Pentium Dual Core is a new brand of Intel Processor that first appeared in selected base model notebook computers from Dell, [1], Acer,[2] HP,[3] and Toshiba in early 2007. The processor is identified by the number T2060 indicating it is related to the Intel Core family of processors and may be a variant of the Intel Core T2050 chip. Early research reveals the processor to be similar to Core or Core 2 processors but with only a 1MB L2 Cache where as Core and Core 2 processors feature 2MB and even 4MB caches.[citation needed]

There is no information available on this processor from Intel at the time of writing this article. It is not known why after announcing the retirement of the Pentium name why Intel has brought it back although Intel did announce plans to possibly return the Pentium brand to the market as an alias for low cost Core 2 chips based on the Conroe-L architecture. However the planned numbers for those processors to carry the Pentium brand are to be prefixed by the letter E, not T as the Pentium Dual Core uses[4].

Further adding to speculation that the T2060 is merely a Core 2 Duo going under the Pentium name is advertising from Australian electronics retailer Dick Smith Powerhouse that refers to it as an Intel Core 2 Duo T2060.[citation needed]

  • 1.6GHz clockspeed (At 1.6ghz, the Pentium Dual Core has at least half the clock speed of a Pentium D which started at 2.66GHz)
  • 533MHz Front Side Bus (FSB) (533MHz is identical to that of an entry level Pentium D processor)
  • 1MB L2 cache (shared, meaning both cores use this single 1MB cache. This equates to 512kb per core, similar to the cache of many Pentium 4 and Pentium D processors)
