An instant messaging manager is a software product created specifically to secure, archive, and/or filter the content of instant messages on the popular instant messaging networks. The product is typically sold in the form of an "appliance" or factory-configured hardware/software package. Businesses use instant messaging managers to ensure security, legal compliance, and policy enforcement for their employees' use of instant messaging. Consumers install instant messaging managers in their homes to monitor and regulate the use of IM by children and teenagers.
