Hastings Old Town Carnival

The Hastings Old Town Carnival had its first procession in 1969. In those days Hastings and St Leonards had their own carnival which missed out the Old Town so Old Town locals decided to form their own carnival. The very first Old Town Carnival Queen was Marion Muggridge, aged 18 years. Born in the Old Town, she is still resident there today and manages the Crazy & Adventure Golf Courses. She is now known as Marion Hartley. The Old Town Carnival gradually got better and the other one, gradually got smaller and does not exist any more. As a parting gift the Hastings carnival gave the Old Town carnival the right to the title "Miss Hastings" so the Old Town Carnival Queen is also Miss Hastings. Hastings Old Town Carnival is run by local Hastings Old Town volunteers and always has been.
- Seaboot Race, here the runner has to run wearing seaboots and a top hat along a road called 'Courthouse Street', they run around a lobster and then back to the start/finish line.
- Jimmy Read Memorial Bike Race, done in memorial of known local fisherman Jimmy Read, who died in the Great Storm of 1987, the fastest person who cycles up the steepest hill in the Old Town without taking his bum of the saddle wins.

- Grand Procession, the procession is full of 'floats', fancy costumes, marching bands, majorettes and twirlers. The procession original started on a Friday afternoon, but recently this was changed to a Saturday afternoon.
