Johan van der Smut, better known as Goldmember, is a fictional villain in the third film of the Austin Powers trilogy, Austin Powers in Goldmember. He is played by Mike Myers (John Travolta played the character in a cameo at the end of the film). The character was inspired by the James Bond villain Auric Goldfinger and the Dutch Johan van der Zee.

Dutch-born van der Smut lost his genitals in an unfortunate smelting (or "schmelting", as he pronounces it) accident in the 1970s and has since been known as "Goldmember". He replaced his lost "equipment" with a gold key that activates the Preparation H tractor beam. He teamed up with Dr. Evil in 2002 to kill Austin Powers and conquer the Earth.

In the end, though, Goldmember is defeated as he attempts to activate the tractor beam with the key (still attached to himself). Austin and Dr. Evil, now working together, reverse the polarity in the system and electrocute and kills him, and falls to the deck of the submarine. In the film within the film, Austinpussy, which is based on the film's events, he is played by John Travolta.

Goldmember has a nasty habit of peeling pieces of his own dead skin off and eating them, much to the disgust of others. He can also dislocate his legs with relative ease (presumably due to his lack of genitals) and is able to kick people behind him by raising his ankle to his shoulder. He runs his own nightclub in the 70's (Studio 69) and is the driving force behind Preparation H, the tractor beam that sucks things to Earth. Often, he talks to his armpits in a ritual-like fashion, usually whispering proper sources of certain phrases for copyright purposes. For example, after saying "And that's the way, uh-huh uh-huh, I like it," quietly comments to the side "KC and the Sunshine Band," and when complimenting Dr. Evil that "you look like a macho man," he mutters "Village People". His peculiar habits even succeed in creeping out Dr Evil.

Goldmember has a fascination for painting others genitals (or "joehoe" als he calls it) gold. In a scene in the submarine lair Goldmember asks Dr. Evil whether he can paint the genitals of Nigel Powers gold because it's "kind of my thing". Dr. Evil is clearly not too enthusiastic about the idea and replies him "How about no you crazy Dutch bastard!".
