Gloria Jean's Coffees began as a small coffee and gift shop in Chicago USA in 1979.
Gloria Jean's Coffees opened its first coffee shop in Australia in 1996. Gloria Jean's Coffees Australia founders (Nabi Saleh and Peter Irvine) acquired Gloria Jean’s Coffees international master franchise brand and roasting rights for all countries (except the USA) in late 2004. The company which oversees Gloria Jean’s Coffees in the United States is Diedrich Coffee.
Gloria Jean's Coffees is found in 26 countries around the world. They have over 765 coffee houses and serve nearly 8.5 million guests each day.
The Gloria Jean's Coffees business model is similar to most fast-food chains in that they have to pay franchise fees and supplies. Each Gloria Jean’s Coffees store is independently owned and operated by a local franchisee.
The core product and sales mix vary greatly between the US market and others. In America, the franchise sells a variety of flavoured coffee beans and products, whereas in Australia, Gloria Jean’s Coffees is known for its signature range of hot and cold coffee drinks including traditional espresso, blends and whole bean coffees (as well as flavoured beans), specialty teas, and pastries and coffee accessories.
In 2006, Gloria Jean's Coffees in the United States released a huge billboard, TV, and radio advertisement campaign, which targeted the younger 18-25 audience.
Gloria Jean's Coffees US is well known for its sponsorship in American sports. It has formula windsurfing number one Allison Shreeve as its spokesperson for Gloria Jean's Coffees in the US.

Gloria Jean’s Coffees Australia has a significant partnership with Mercy Ministries. Nabi Saleh and Peter Irvine are also prominent, active members of the Hillsong Church.[3]
Nabi Saleh is the Chairman of Gloria Jean's Coffees Australia and New Zealand. He also sits on the board of directors for several large, non-profit organisations[4].
Gloria Jean’s Coffees is Mercy Ministries’ major corporate sponsor. "Gloria Jean’s Coffees chose to support Mercy Ministries because there is a need in Australia for a dedicated charity that helps women with these difficult issues," said Peter Irvine, Co-Founder of Gloria Jean's Coffees"[5]
