Gary Taphouse

Gary Taphouse is a TV and radio football commentator from Surrey. He mainly works for Sky Sports and Smooth Radio.
He was born in July 1975 and was educated at Whitgift School in Croydon, then studied BA (Hons) Multi-Media Journalism at Bournemouth University.
He began his journalistic career at the South London Guardian newspaper in 1997. At the same time he began commentating on the newly-formed Palace Radio service.
In the 1998-99 season he began reporting on the award-winning Capital Gold sports programmes, and did some freelance reporting on the London Evening Standard newspaper.
At around the same time he first appeared on Sky Sports' Gillette Soccer Saturday programme.
He then began commentating on a freelance basis for BBC London 94.9 and on ONdigital, later ITV Digital.
In 2001 he became sports editor at the Chelsea FC digital service "Big Blue" where he commentated on every Chelsea match home and away, including the Champions League, with former Chelsea striker Kerry Dixon.
While working at Stamford Bridge, he also did some commentary work for Chelsea TV.
In March 2005, at the age of 29, he was offered his first commentary for Sky Sports - Fulham v Manchester City on Football First.
In August 2005, Gary also began working freelance for London's Smooth Radio, who had bought the commentary rights to Chelsea matches. He also covers the Wimbledon tennis championships for Smooth and can be heard reading sports bulletins in the station's breakfast show.
He commentates for Sky Sports most Saturdays during the football season. He also provides commentaries for Trans World International, who supply overseas broadcasters with TV and radio coverage of the Premier League.
