Reinaldo Apolo Gargano Ostuni (born 1934) has served as the Foreign Minister of Uruguay[1] since 1 March 2005, President of the Socialist Party of Uruguay (PSU) since 2001, and a member of the Uruguayan Senate since 1984.[citation needed]

Gargano went into exile in Spain in 1974 following a coup d'état, but returned several years later, serving as the Secretary-General of the PSU for 16 years. He became a member of the cabinet of President Tabaré Vázquez when he took office in 2005.[citation needed]

On 1 November 2004 Gargano said, "Our people will warmly welcome the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Uruguay and Cuba."[2]
