Friedrich Franz II, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (28 February 1823-15 April 1883) ruled over the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin from 7 March 1842 until 15 April 1883.

He was born in Ludwigslust the eldest son of Paul Friedrich, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Princess Alexandrine of Prussia. Friedrich Franz was married firstly to Princess Auguste of Reuss (1822-1862) on 3 November 1849 in Ludwigslust. They had six children:

Friedrich Franz married secondly in Darmstadt 4 July 1864 to Princess Anne of Hesse and by Rhine (1822-1865) they had one daughter:

His third wife was Princess Marie of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt (1850-1922) with whom he had four children:

Friedrich Franz took part in the Franco-Prussian War during which he commanded troops during the Loire campaign. At Beaune-La-Rolande he defeated a French army.

Friedrich Franz died on 15 April 1883 in Schwerin and was succeeded as Grand Duke by his eldest son Friedrich Franz III.
