Foot hockey
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Foot hockey is a sport related to ice hockey, but there is no equipment or stick, using feet to kick a ball (most commonly a tennis ball), hitting a custom-dimensioned wall usually on a school playground to score a goal. It is mostly used at grade schools, and is popular. The rules are similar to hockey, but it is almost like soccer in a way.
There is one to three goalies depending on the size of the 'net'. This is almost always played in the winter because the pavement is to hard to kneel or lay down on. The snow is more comfortable, with the warm clothing worn. There can be one or two nets one on each end, or just one. The goalie(s) have no equipment, except for, obviously, clothes and sometimes a baseball glove. The ball can be covered up by the goaltender and can be thrown or tossed away to get back in position, ready for another shot, and relieve any pressure or scrambles.
There are no face-offs, and can be played for every man for himself, or teams. The usual age range is from 9-12. Usually rules can be customized in many ways in kids' opinions on which how and it should be played.
The game can be dangerous, as shots to the head or kicks to the feet, and head in a scramble can possibly happen. Even balls to the shin could hurt; also, when goalie (is most common to get hurt), kicks to the fingers can be common depending on the players' aggression trying to get the ball out of the goalie's possession. Even though they do not happen often, they can easily happen.
