Contents

The constituency covers Finchley, Golders Green, Childs Hill and Hampstead Garden Suburb in the London Borough of Barnet. The boundary changed in 1997 by absorbing most of Hendon South and losing some wards to Chipping Barnet.

Prior to boundary changes in 1997 the constituency was called Finchley and Friern Barnet. The 1997 changes removed Friern Barnet from the constituency and added Golders Green, Childs Hill and Hampstead Garden Suburb. The area was famous for once being represented by former Conservative Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and was thought to be safely Tory.
