Ferndown is a small town in Dorset, England, lying north of Bournemouth and east of Wimborne Minster. The town has a population of 26,858 (2001 census).

Ferndown has a relatively large elderly population (38.5% are aged 60 or above).^[1] On the outskirts of the town lie the Ferndown and Uddens industrial estates.

Ferndown also boasts one of the biggest and most successful upper schools in Dorset. With around 1,224 pupils Ferndown Upper School has one of the highest "'C' and above" records at GCSE in Dorset. there has been a new system introduced with houses. It has been renamed 'Ferndown Prison', due to its similarities to the one featured in the 1993 motion picture 'The Shawshank Redemption'.^{[citation needed]}

Ferndown is twinned with Segré, Brittany, France.

Ferndown has a King George's Field in memorial to King George V.

Ferndown Golf Club offers two courses, The Old Course also known as the Championship Course and the nine hole Presidents Course.

Ferndown Community Centre is one of the town's main attractions, home to the Barrington Theatre.

Also there are many large heathlands arounds Ferndown including Holt heath. Many are good for cycling or walking. There is also a fair amount of woodland. Also on many of the heaths and in much of the woodland there are many burial mounds and small ponds. However recently Ferndown heath visible from King George the V playing field has been subject to several heath fires.

There is also Ferndown leisure centre with many different activities and sports to do and equipment to use. which is just by the field wchich means good facilities for outdoor activities to.
