Mukilteo Fairies

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mukilteo Fairies was a Queercore band from Olympia, Washington in the 1990s.

They were distinctive from other bands in this genre by virtue of their fast, furious style of hardcore punk. They have been described as grindcore; songs are very short, lyrics are shouted or screamed and often indistinguishable and the musicians play at a tremendous speed, to great effect. Members included Jason Reece, Jon "Quitty" Quittner, Joshua Plague and Rebecca Basye. After the band broke up, Jason Reece moved to Texas to form ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead. Rebecca Bayse moved to Columbus, Ohio and started The Emerald Down. Jon Quittner and Joshua Plague stayed in Olympia, creating a new queercore band Behead the Prophet, No Lord Shall Live. After that group broke up, Joshua's next outfit was Lords of Lightspeed. Hardcore band Limp Wrist offers a homage to Joshua Plague, along with Gary Floyd of The Dicks and Randy Turner of Big Boys in their song "Ode", a tribute to their role models. Mukilteo Fairies are fast approaching legendary status, highly regarded by and sought out by hardcore punk aficionados, Trail Of Dead devotees and queercore enthusiasts alike; they have become more popular since breaking up than when the band was together.
