Excision

Excision means "to remove as if by cutting".
- In surgery, an excision (or resection) is the complete removal of an organ or a tumor, as opposed to a biopsy. An "excisional biopsy" (sometimes called a "tumorectomy") is the removal of a tumor with a minimum of healthy tissue. It is therefore an excision rather than a biopsy.
- It is the French term for female genital cutting and can be used as an euphemism.
- It is a term used by the Australian government as part of its definition of the Australian migration zone.
- The Excision theorem is an important theorem in Algebraic topology, a branch of Mathematics.
- Excise taxes are taxes paid when purchases are made on a specific good, such as gasoline. Excise taxes are often included in the price of the product. There are also excise taxes on activities, such as on wagering or on highway usage by trucks.
