The band was formed in 1996 when David Tan, Keith Colaco, Desmond Goh and William Lim Jr. got together for an event at their church. The band initially practised in a construction container. After three years of working together, the lack of support for Singaporean music and other problems forced Colaco to leave. The loss eventually led Electric Company to disband.

In 2003, Daniel Sassoon of the now defunt decade indie band Livonia joined Tan, Goh and Lim. Hence the band's name was shorten from Electric Company to Electrico. Keyboardist Amanda Ling, the only lady in the group, was later talent-scouted by the band. She was also the last person to join the guys.

In August 2004, Electrico released its debut album So Much More Inside and their debut single I Want You. It shot to #1 on the then Singapore radio station Perfect 10 (now known as 98.7FM)'s official Top20 weekly countdown chart on October 2004 and Power 98. Subsequent singles Runaway and Good Time were also considered big hits with fans and scored respectable positions on the charts as well.

I Want You led Electrico in winning the award for Top Local English Pop Song category at the 11th COMPASS (Composers & Authors Society Of Singapore) awards presentation.

As of to date, So Much More Inside has sold over 3000 copies at retail outlets and gigs.

In 2005, the band was nominated for Favourite Singaporean Artist at the MTV Asia Awards. As a result, they made history by being the first home grown band to be nominated.

The band also performed live shows in the region, including the Baybeats music festival in Singapore and the Pattaya International Music Festival in Thailand. The band was the opening act for The Bravery when they came to Singapore to perform.

Electrico also played alongside 1 of The Philippines biggest rock band Rivermaya at their first showcase in Singapore that took place at Bar None, Marriott Hotel in October 2005.

In which subsquently led both bands a collaboration that can be found on Electrico's 2nd sophomore album Hip City, a ballad titled All The World.

After months of promotions and gigs with them sneaking in a few tracks from Hip City here & there, the band was back in the studio, working on Hip City in which work began around August 2005. Initially scheduled for a late December 2005 release, it was later postponed until June 22, 2006 due to the fact that the album was plagued with delays.

Love In New Wave, the first single off Hip City, subsequently went on to become Electrico's second song to earn a #1 spot on 98.7FM's official Top10 chart show on September 22, 2006. The session in which it topped the chart happened to have lead guitarist Daniel Sassoon as its guest cohost for that day.

The video for Love In New Wave was mostly shot inside Ministry Of Sound, club Happy & Haji Lane and it was directed by Carl Siahaan in which his sister, model/actress Desiree Siahaan made a guest appearance in the music video.

David Tan revealed that all songs in the album describe the current Singaporean music.

And as of November 2006, the new single that's currently heating up 98.7FM is the ballad Hello which also can be found in the For Good! CD compliation that's released by Aging Youth Records in support of Music For Good in April 2006.

Love In New Wave came in No.32 in the 987FM Top 100 Countdown for 2006 and they also bagged the Local Act Of The Year (2006) acclode in the 987FM Top 100 Special Category Nominations.

Love In New Wave snagged the No.16 position in Power98's Top 30 for 2006.

It was reported on Singapore tabiold newspaper TODAY on November 21, 2006 that a special remix of Love In New Wave was done by homegrown DJs Aldrin Quek and Akien and that it has became the latest dance anthem championed by British DJ Pete Tong on his high profile Essential Mix series on BBC Radio 1 in England.

TODAY ranked Hip City 7th in their Top10 list of memorable albums that you should rock out in the stereos overall for 2006. Describing the album as 'Simple yet melodic, Electrico's Hip City gave naysayers - who claim "Singaporean rock" is an oxymoron - a rocking slap in face' & rated Love In New Wave as a key track.

As part of NUS (National University of Singapore)'s Arts Festival, Electrico will be staging their first full length concert and ticketed performance for Hip City, the Live In New Wave concert which is scheduled to take place on Friday 7.30pm, March 2, 2007.
