Edisto Beach, South Carolina

Edisto Beach is a town in Colleton County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 641 at the 2000 census. The town limits include only the coastal area of Edisto Island (the majority of the island's area is part of Charleston County, though the town itself is incorporated within Colleton).
Edisto Beach is located at (32.487613, -80.324402)GR1.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 6.1 km² (2.3 mi²). 5.5 km² (2.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it (9.79%) is water.
As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 641 people, 329 households, and 221 families residing in the town. The population density was 116.7/km² (301.7/mi²). There were 1,785 housing units at an average density of 325.1/km² (840.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 95.63% White, 2.81% African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.16% from other races, and 0.94% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.31% of the population.
There were 329 households out of which 10.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.6% were married couples living together, 6.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.8% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.95 and the average family size was 2.34.
In the town the population was spread out with 9.2% under the age of 18, 3.4% from 18 to 24, 15.8% from 25 to 44, 45.2% from 45 to 64, and 26.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 56 years. For every 100 females there were 91.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.7 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $54,444, and the median income for a family was $68,056. Males had a median income of $47,188 versus $29,500 for females. The per capita income for the town was $39,400. About 1.8% of families and 3.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including none of those under age 18 and 2.8% of those age 65 or over.
