Edelweiss Aosta Valley

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Edelweiss Aosta Valley (Stella Alpina Val d'Aosta, SA) is a christian-democratic and centrist party, active in Aosta Valley.

It was founded in 2002 by the merge of Autonomists and the Autonomist Federation. The Autonomists were basically the Valdotanian section of the Italian People's Party, one of the successors of Christian Democracy, while the Autonomist Federation was formed by former Popular Democrats/Progressive Democratic Autonomists, along with former members of the Italian Socialist Party and of the Italian Republican Party.

In the 2003 regional election, SA scored 19.8%[1] and elected 8 regional councillors[2]. Then the Autonomist Federation re-gained its independence from SA. From 2002 to 2006, the party was represented in the Italian Chamber of Deputies by Ivo Collé.

In the 2006 general election, the party formed an alliance with the Valdotanian Union and the Autonomist Federation (SA's leader Marco Viérin was candidate for the Chamber of Deputies), but was soundly defeated by the centre-left list Autonomy Liberty Democracy.
