Dmitry Nikolayevich Kozak (Russian: Дмитрий Николаевич Козак) (b. November 7, 1958 in Kirovograd, Ukrainian SSR), is a Russian politician. Currently he is a special representative of the Russian president in the Southern Federal District (North Caucasus and southern European Russia).

Dmitry Kozak is known as a close ally of President Vladimir Putin and one of the key figures in the presidential team. During the 2004 Russian election he was official head of Vladimir Putin’s election team.

Dmitry Kozak graduated from Leningrad State University in 1985 with a degree in law. He worked as a public prosecutor in Leningrad and after the collapse of the Soviet Union held various offices in the city’s administration mostly in a legal department. In 1998 became vice-governor of Saint-Petersburg.

In 1999 together with some other officials from this city entered Putin’s government. He held the post of the Chief of Staff from 1999 to 2000. Dmitry Kozak became a Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration and remained in this position under various titles until 2004. In 2003 he briefly entered international politics and unsuccessfully attempted to solve the conflict between Transnistria and Moldova.

In September 2004 Dmitry Kozak was appointed "Presidential Plentipotenitary envoy to the Southern Federal District". The current policy of the Russian government in this volatile region, where Chechnya is located, amounts to the de-facto enforcement of the direct presidential rule. The greatest challenge facing Kozak in the region is improving the day to day lives and economic situation in which the people live. In order to eliminate the conditions that create breeding ground for terrorism and to achieve stability in the region.

Dmitry Kozak is married and has two sons. It has been suggested that he may be chosen as President Putin's successor, a charge that Kozak has denied.
