Muldaur is probably best known for playing L.A. Law's Rosalind Shays (the tough, sharp litigator who plummeted to her death down an empty elevator shaft in an infamous 1991 episode), and as Dr. Katherine Pulaski in the second season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Muldaur also performed the part of a doctor by providing the voice of Dr. Leslie Thompkins in Batman: The Animated Series.

She was a guest star in the episodes "Return to Tomorrow" and "Is There in Truth No Beauty?" of the original Star Trek, one of 32 actors to have appeared in at least two generations of the franchise. She had a recurring role on the McCloud television series. She also starred in the short-lived TV drama Born Free.

While filming the episode "Unnatural Selection" on TNG and using extensive make-up to make her look older, she and fellow actress Patricia Smith felt so tired that they swore never to work on science fiction again.

Muldaur's voice can also be heard on Pink Floyd's mega-selling 1979 album "The Wall." She had guest starred in a gunsmoke episode with James Arness, and the dialogue between the two can be heard before the brief song "Is there anybody out there?" Arness: "Well, we've got about an hour of daylight left, we better get started." Muldaur: "Isn't it unsafe to travel at night?"

Muldaur earned two Emmy-nominations for her role on L.A. Law. The scene where Rosalind and Leland were discovered in bed was ranked as the 38th greatest moment in television in an issue of EGG magazine[citation needed].

A graduate of Sweet Briar College, Muldaur was at one point a board member of the Screen Actors Guild and later the president of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Retired from acting, Diana Muldaur is a dog breeder, owner, and judge.

She is currently married to Robert Dozier; she was previously married to James Vickery until his death. She has no children.
