Dharma Productions

Dharma Productions is a film company founded by Yash Johar in 1976.

The first film to be produced by the company was Dostana (1980) and went on to produce many more action films. In 1998, Mr. Johar's son Karan Johar made his directorial debut with the film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The film was one of the biggest hits of the year. Karan Johar went on to make many more family dramas including the two blockbusters, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) and Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003). Breaking away from the romantic family dramas, the company then produced the thriller Kaal in 2005. The latest release was Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, which released on August 11th, 2006. Recently, Dharma Productions and NDTV decided to jointly launch an entertainment television channel.

Dharma Productions employs also some of the most well-known Indian actors and actresses (in alphabetical order): John Abraham, Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Sonali Bendre, Juhi Chawla, Kajol, Kareena Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Saif Ali Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Anupam Kher, Kiron Kher, Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta.
