Path of Destruction is a novel in the Star Wars saga and is centered around the life of Darth Bane and the fall of the Sith Era. It is written by Drew Karpyshyn and was released on September 26, 2006. The book takes place 1003-1000 BBY.

Since childhood, the young man known as Dessel has known only the abuse of his controlling and domineering father and the dangerous, soul-crushing labor of a Cortosis Miner. Deep in the tunnels of the desolate planet Apatros, endlessly excavating the rare mineral valued throughout the galaxy, Dessel dreams of the day he can escape-a day he fears may never come. Dessel gets himself involved in a high-stakes card game. Unfortunately, this ends in deadly violence and now he is a wanted man.

Dessel fears vengeful Old Republic Forces and ends up joining the Sith Army. He becomes part of their war against the Republic and their revered Jedi. His skill with the Force is noted and tested by the Sith Masters. Some consider Dessel tied in with a destiny far greater than their simple war, should he prove himself worthy.

Dessel enters the legendary Sith Academy and studies the ways of the Dark Side. He embraces his new identity of 'Bane', creating a name that once meant his weakness, into his power. His final test is to join the infamous Sith organization, the 'Brotherhood of Darkness'. Treachery, deception and murder among the Sith Disciples bar his way.

Only by defying the most sacred traditions, rejecting all he has been taught, and drawing upon the long-forgotten wisdom of Darth Revan, a Sith Lord of Old, can Darth Bane hope to triumph - and forge a new era of absolute dark power.
