Crescent Shipyard

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Crescent Shipyard, located in Elizabeth, New Jersey, built a number of ships for the United States Navy. The man in charge of the shipbuilding operations was Arthur Leopold Busch - who started the yard with Lt. Lewis Nixon (Ret.) in January of 1895. Busch supervised several classes of naval ships while at Crescent to include the proto type submarine "Fulton" and the [Adder class submarines| [USS Plunger (SS-2), Adder, Moccasin, [USS Porpoise] (SS-7) Porpoise, and Shark. These pioneering submarines were built for The Holland Torpedo Boat Company. This shipyard was owned and operated by Lewis Nixon. Although the Electric Boat Company might state otherwise - their sources for this information is not reliable and credits the wrong people for these contributions during the founding of The Electric Boat Company.
